Carlton
There has been plenty of talk about trading Whitnall and Fevola. I saw on the news this morning that Carlton might consider trading both. If this happened Camporeale and Lappin migth stay. If we traded both the big KPP what draft picks would we want. Do we ask for KPP players in return or just draft picks?

We already have picks 1, 4 and 20 as early picks. If Whitnall and Fevola are traded we should be able to pick up another 3 top 20 picks, 2 of them being top 10 IMO.

I'm not saying we should do this but I'm asking the Carlton supporters on this site whether or not you would agree with Carlton doing this as it appears it could happen.

Upside
- we get plenty of 1st and 2nd round picks
- we get some good players from other teams
- we get class and potential
- we free up the salary cap more
- more opportunities to younger KPP in Hartlett, Waite, Setanta, Fisher, etc.

Downside
- more pressure on the young kids
- less goals?
- too many young players on the list
- lose two players who can win games off their own boots

What do you think? Trade or not? What compensation would you want? Is 5 or 6 top 20 draft picks too many or is it what we need right here and now? Cheers all.

i'd be happy with (3 top 20 picks and a starting 18 player) for (fev and lance), not concerended if lappin and campo stay.

IMO all 4 players do not have the best interest of the club at heart (this may have to do with their managers)

as for the up and down sides:
quality players rise to the challenge under pressure
no fev and lance may give us more variety in the FWD line
create a new culture at the club, where carlton FC comes first

there is no guarantee thet the kids we draft are going to be stars but its fair to say with potentially 6x 1st round draft picks 3 will be very good players and the other 3 at worst will be OK players

the thing is if we go down the draft pick path, we need to go hard and be agressive, no good doing things half heartedly and hedging our bets.

my preference is:

fev= 1x top 10 pick & 1x top 20 pick or first 18 player
lance= 1x top 10 pick & 1x top 20 pick
lappin= 1x round 2 draft pick
houlihan= 1x round 2 draft pick
campo= trade for player

i'd be happy with that sort of outcome. There needs to be a culture shift and this would do it. Also, it would allow Pagan to construct the team he wants...direct, tough and disciplined...from the ground up through drafting or trading some draft picks. Trying to make Campo, Houlihan and Fev play tough and disciplined is like trying to push a square block into a round hole. I wish Pagan could be more adaptable and able to reach some of the wayward players. This is unlikely to happen, but if he can exert discipline and get a group of players together suited to his game plan, his old but simple approach could work out in the long-term. We need to develop cultures that saw Swans and Adelaide succeed this year given question marks over their lists and sees teams like Brisbane able to keep such a good group of players together based on loyalty.
