Should the AFL legislate to ensure that compassionate grounds are real and not concocted?

There were about 1500 supporters in the audience on the night.
With a number that large there would bound to been 50 or so idiots who would have IMV, heckled and boo-ed Dayne.

Why come out and say what his intentions were before the Copeland. Was it too hard to keep your mouth shut?

Griffen for example only come out two days ago. Could Beams of not dragged us through all that conjecture before trade had even opened?

So you allow the minority DH supporters to dictate your actions?
Attending the Copeland was a no brainer for me...his non attendance was the catalyst for creating doubt about his real intentions (or at least watering down the family aspect of his request for trade).

Do you feel the same applies to Ryder (i.e. his non attendance at Essendon's BnF means the health of his child has nothing to do with the reason he is leaving)?
And Luke Ball's non attendance what is, in you view, going on there?

The AFL already have the power, under the contract a player signs, to investigate close relations financials.
This is supposedly to stop brown paper bag payments.
Yes, I was surprised when I found out this fact as well.

It's one thing to make sure they aren't being paid under the table - it's another thing entirely to start interrogating them about their personal relationships and private family matters.

Nick Maxwell got suspended for discussing positional changes with his Mother

Again how does that have anything to do whatsoever with digging around into the health and personal relationship issues of a player's family members / partner?

It was the betting plunge and subsequently the rumour mill that brought the Maxwell issue to the attention of the AFL and Maxwell told them about his slip up when the AFL enquired about the situation - they didn't go digging around in Maxy's family's personal affairs at all in that situation...

I think his no-show was completely understandable.
Why would Beams turn up to hear the crap that is being thrown his way for seeking a trade
I mean just look at the Neanderthal thinking on this board, IMV much of that type of vitriol would have been directed at him on the night

Did you notice Luke Ball wasn't there either.
Apparently there are different supporter rules for different non-attendees
My understanding is that Ball's partner/wife has a baby due.

Neither Patrick Ryder or Luke Ball are contracted to play at the Collingwood a football Club in 2015.
Dayne Beams only wanted out for family reasons, yet doesn't bother to turn up to the biggest Collingwood event with his team mates, collect his hard earned trophy & wish the club & his mates all the best for the future.
His actions (or lack there of) display a person who is running away & perhaps a little embarrassed about it?
I do not want him in a Collingwood jumper next year...
So you think that he is 100% correct in what he is doing & the way he is doing it?

Ryder is not our concern and he has made it quite clear for some time that he wants out of Essendon. If Beams had been pure in his stated motive for seeking a trade to Brisbane he would have attended the Copeland. If the Copeland was held tonight, there would be many more than your 50 out of 1500 heckling and booing and for good reason.

BJ, Luke wasn't there, and I'm not sure why, but he pre-recorded a long message for the night, and it was shown. So while he was not there in person, he made a contribution.

I'd prefer him to stay, but if he wants to go, so be it.
He isn't doing anything 100 footballers who have gone before him haven't done

Luke Ball didn't turn up, therefore (based on your logic and that of many others) he doesn't like Bucks, hates Leading Teams and is only using his wife's pregnancy as an excuse .... its a silly argument isn't it?

Thanks VP.
I was using his absence by way of making a point that it is possible to have a legitimate reason for not being there, just as Beams may have had

But I think I need to get with this years hate program, its two years in a row now that I failed to get on board

See BJ. There is a logical explanation for every one of your concerns and questions. There wasn't the support for your contentions you expected there'd be, was there?

It's not hate...rather a reaction to the 'how' rather than the 'why'.
We are extremely disappointed in him.
I was fully supportive of Beams & his reasons for wanting out...however he has shown no respect to Collingwood, his team mates & the supporters.
He is making his own bed...

Are you for real?

Peddling a crap line trying to defend Beams.

He was photographed at a pub on the night. What is your reasoning for that?

Yes it is a silly argument, mainly because there is a totally logical explanation for his non attendance which in no way relates to your silly post.

Thanks VP.

Yep, clearly he had to have drinks with Shaw at a nearby pub!

I have no issues with players wanting to leave for whatever reason financial, go home factor or change of club. my issue is with general media and public who get on their high horse that in this case Collingwood are dogs and should show compassion to Beams. but the ball is also In Brisbane court they could just as easily pay overs to get beams and show compassion. and beams could himself show compassion in honouring his contract that he happily signed and stay at Collingwood.
