Williams, Wirrapunda, Morrison and Braun

These are the players i feel will be used when the trading starts. Although Wirra is a vice captain and i feel could become a real champion, he might be used to lure a big name player from the eastern states (ie: Gasper)

Williams has yet to have a consistent year and even though has shown potential, might be thrown into the mix for a trade

Braun is a quality player, no doubt about it. His skills are fantastic. If it wasnt for his knees, he wouldnt be on this list.

Morrison hasnt had a flash year, and with his knee recon, might be offered to other clubs

I dont particularly want any of these players to go, but if we're to pick up some quality players from other clubs, these are the players we have to offer

Thoughts??

Apparently the eagles CEO said in a pre-match speech that the eagles won't be particularly active in the trades next week, so i wouldn't expect a big name player to either leave or join the club.

I suppose that might be the reason why we haven't gone all out to secure Gaspar's services. I also suspect that if we do trade, it will only be for Rioli or a draft pick, and we would be unlikely to give up one of our better players considering our lack of depth.

But you never know, there have been rumours circulating that Tarrant is coming to the eagles(i think someone on Bigfooty mentioned it) and that McKernan might also play for us(Walls said it on "talking footy"). So it will be an interesting month, who will we get, who will leave and who will be coach?

i think that depending solely on the early draft picks and the second tier players (ie: chambers, embley, williams) to step up might be a mistake

maybe its time we went all out to get a quality player or two

AND A GOOD COACH!!!

I disagree with you iceman, what good is it recruiting a good player or two if we know that we won't win a premiership anyway?

I rather we take our time and build a team that will win premierships, rather then be up there in "contention", yet never good enough to quite win. And we can achieve this by not giving away draft picks and our young players but instead by getting rid of the dead wood (Cummings, Turnbull, Harding, etc) and drafting youngsters who will one day lead us to glory.

im not saying give away our early draft picks as that would be a mistake

im saying get a recognized player or two to help in our key positions until the youngsters develop or take that next step

Exactatackily.......I agree Jod, he is a waste. Daddy IIIIs has the right thought, time to bring in youngsters to build a premiership side around the second tier players we have now....5 years, who knows?

5 years...McKernan may have retired.....

I think it takes a really exceptional character to have success, premierships and a lot of Finals ups and downs, to then move to another club and do the same again. It can happen, but it's rare -and there is absolutely NO WAY that McKernan would be able to do it - he would just be coming for money.

We are better advised to develop our own great players plus make the occasional judicious selection from other clubs' stars. Gaspar could be one of them, though remember he's had very little Finals experience and I certainly wouldn't be offering the sort of money Freo are (allegedly) for him.

I expect us not to be particularly active in trades - mainly because we don't have that much to offer in other clubs' eyes. So one of Mick's favourite Victorians to Collingwood is about the most likely.
