I know it's a fair way off, but over the last few seasons the Dees have been very quiet on the trade front. Obviously this is because we needed to build a solid core of youth as a basis for a good team.
I think now that we have a solid base, we need to start being more active on the trade front. Last year I would have loved to have seen us do a deal with Gold Coast to pre-list Jon Giles and trade something with them. Whilst we have a couple of young developing ruckmen, we obviously lack depth in the ruck at the moment.
We have a few players on our list who are surplus to requirements, and a few holes in our team that need filling. So who/what type of player would you like to see us trading for?
A lot of talk about needing that long kicking defensive half back. I think with some game time Strauss could definately be that player, but you know what they say about opinions. The other area we need to address is the back up ruckman. A lot of that depends on Martin, Spencer, Gawn and Fitzy developing this year, but without a miracle for one of them I doubt they would be ready next year. Robbie Campbell is nice insurance, but that's all he should be. He was an average ruckman for Hawthorn, and he will still be an average ruckman, as well as having question marks over his fitness.
We have too many small and medium forwards in our side, so I think we could actively look at trading a couple of them.
