Hello Basketball fans -

I was hoping someone to explain this to me, not a huge basketball fan so maybe I have always mis-understood how this rule works, but I was randomly surfing youtube and I came across this recent clip

I counted 6 steps but only one bounce of the basketball -

Is this a case of a Jetta-esque-3-bounce-100metre-run leeway of the rules because of the exciting nature of this play? Or have I just got the travel rule wrong?

Yeah, should've been travelling.
Pre-bounce it's waaaaaaaaaaaay too close to call.
But post bounce - 1 too many steps. Clear travel.

btw - Was I the only person who thought this topic was going to be about someone asking about travel tips to get to games and tickets etc.?

I thought it was the only way around. :D

I thought pre-bounce he clearly takes two steps but given he is sprinting a travel will never be called as he gathered and bounced as soon as practicable.
Post-bounce it's only two steps after he gathers. That "first step" post bounce he still hasn't actually gathered the ball, it's still bouncing up to him. After he gathers it, it's "one-two-dunk." That's not an NBA travel imo.

To the OP just a slight clarification there is no actual rule as to the amount of steps to bounces of the basketball that makes it a travel. The rule in you should begin bouncing the ball before your pivot foot leaves the floor and then after the gather you have two steps to dispose of the ball.
