I just checked the stats. Varcoe had 13 disposals (6k, 7h), 69% effective. For a point of reference Hogan had 15 disposals (3k, 12h), 80% effective. Trav was ok, especially for having missed a month. He is great at running and gaining contested possessions. Must stay in the side for mine, but lately i cringe if he has a set shot on goal.

Those stats are a bit misleading. As u can see, Hogan had only 3 kicks with 12 handballs so u would hope his effectiveness % would be higher with 4 times more handballs than kicks, and half the kicks of somebody else.

Agree with u about set shots though, that goes for over half the team as well!

I agree. Pretty much thats my argument as far as disposal he was roughly on par with Hogan for the game. good, but not that good.

Who on earth said Hogan didn't play well?
Nutbags whoever they are.

He was getting the ball everywhere early on and looked so composed you'd think he'd played 70 games.

I did for one. When i first commented on the game at about 7:30 am on Sunday when i finally got home. I said that he didn't look like he had more than 5 touches. Although after re-watching the game i did change my post and say that he was more influential than i had thought when i first typed the comment. He was good early on but didn't do as much as i expected him to. Maybe i am just expecting to much from him.

But when he has games like the St. Kilda game where he had only played a few games prior and yet looked like he belonged in the team at that level of football which was the best/hardest game of the year it is understandable for me to get ahead of myself. He is currently sitting tied as my 2nd favourite player.

Sort of hijacked Varcoe's thread talking about Hogan though.

Back to Varcoe...One major improvement I've noticed this year is that he keeps his feet better (it was very poor in previous years). Another is that he is backing himself more - taking risks and allowing his flair (or is it flare?) to shine through (pun?)

He also seems to be steering away from that moustache, which can only be a good thing.

Max can get away with it, but Varcoe?............not so much.
