Interesting story in the herald sun on page 13 this morning re Geelong pulling travis varcoes myspace page due to some racial and sexual referances, including referances to black superiority. Whilst i would put this down to nothing more than a naive young man, as the quotes attributed to the site arnt offensive too any one i dont think, it is quiet interesting that this is so deep in the paper. Compare it to if it were a white player with connotations of white superiority, then you would find a front page media beat up.
 
Interesting, did it actually say what he said? Obviously been hanging out with Mundine too much. Serious question, is he Muslim? Many young indigenous people are turning to Islam as a solution to actual/percieved inequality in society.

It was just going on about how black friends are better than white friends. Why would Islam necessarily be involved?

I didn't say it was involved, I asked if it was involved as it is a topical discussion point in any talk about race relations in this country ATM.

Fair enough, but it seems a bit unfair to drag Islam into it when it would seem it has nothing to do with the story at hand. Perhaps couching the question in more general (religious) terms terms might be a better idea?

Anything that generalises it and makes an unfair comparison would be referred to racism these days, yes.
 
Imagine Troy Selwood having a similar page spruiking that his white friends are better than his black friends. It would be a front page story.
 
Look, anyone with profile if you say the wrong thing or post it to a site you will be taken for a ride.

I'd say 90% of Australians don't give a toss with Aboriginal culture or their way of life, which is a detriment to our society in general. We have a major problem with their society being left behind, now becoming welfare dependant.

He may have these views, however he must learn that posting them to a site which is linked to himself is extremely immature, because it will only bring acrimony towards himself from a number of diverse groups.

I guess as a player, a public figure that is something you'd rather not have. Plus, to bring yet more reasons (yet simplistic ones), to divide society isn't acceptable either.

To those who don't think that his posted comments would do such, I highly recommend you think about the consequences of another race/society doing such.

Yes I do note the previous posts, 'what if this was done by a white person', that is a true reflection of how low our society is, believe me acceptance by all Australians is not commonplace.

It would definitely raise more concern and ire within the community. Something we can do without.

An absolutely disgraceful example of a bloke just being a bloke...ohhh the shamee !!!...he should be doing the right thng by going out of his way to represent all the minority groups and amateur social workers.

Dont you mean Adam selwood, because he was the one that had a go at headland. Troy selwood, probably would get away with it, his record is clean. And maybe this isnt his myspace, cause losers actually go to all the trouble of making players ones and being idiots on them, its happened with chad fletcher before.
