We need to take him at number 2... if we take cale morton it is a massive mistake...he is terribly over rated and he is not going to be the player cotchin will be can we start a thread for support of taking cotchin over morton...?

I agree with you in that i would prefer Cotchin but either way both players will be quality pickups by whichever club lands them.

Cale set an impressive beep test result beating Danyle Pearces all time record. Now tell me that aint no fairy achievement for a tall!

Also he's a quality disposer of the ball by hand and most importantly by foot.

IMO his addition to our backline will add class and skill of the likes we've not seen in years since the Gaspar days............only jibbin ya ;)

So whoever we get of the two i will be happy.

out of curiosity, why do you say getting Cale will be a "massive mistake"?

sure he set a beep test record but thats not to say hes got a bigger engine then other guys...cotchin was infact injured for the camp don't think he wouldve out done cale but its one running test which i find pretty inaccurate as a measure of fitness...like the rest of the mortons cale thinks hes the ducks nuts..i think the fact every other club rates cotchin higher then cale and in some cases kruezer shows he is the player we need to get...unless we want to make another mistake

You've obviously seen Morton play a fair bit . What are the deficiencies apart from his personality?

if we pass up cotchin i will be begin to drink :(

please don;t do it - this trade period has been gutting enough

don't get me wrong i think hes going to be a good player in years to come but i saw a fair bit of his colts games at claremont this year and a cpl of league ones and i just think he has so far to go to really cut it and be consistent at afl level..his kicking is great and he reads the play quite well and as a late top 10 pick i would be stoked with him but at number 2 its just not right! he needs a lot of gym work and i think the transition will be a lot longer then cotchins...i wouldn't even say hes the best of the mortons i think we are about to sign the best of the lot up in mitch!!

When it comes down to it its about need.

Whether we need Cotchin or Morton almost entirely relies on the recovery of Coughlan. If his knee is gone, we need Cotchin because he is an inside, "footballer before athlete" from what i gather. Otherwise, we have Tuck, Coughlan, Foley who can get the hard ball.

Morton could be anything. He could be a tall, lean midfielder in the embley mould. Or he could be a running loose half back (ughhhhh no more please!). Or he could be a centre half forward if he gains a few more cms and kgs. With a tank like that, he could be similar to pavlich.

But do we really need anything Morton could be? He fits into our gameplan provided Coughlan is ok. Otherwise, go Cotchin.

Having watched some tapes of morton the other night i can say that if we get him will turn out to be an absolute gun. The kid can play, can take a contested mark and has beautyfull skills. Dominated the champs in all 3 games and is also bottom age. At 192 and 79 kg i think he will grow a few more cm's and can hold a kpp. Also i see him as a Kouta or Chad Cornes type that can play all different roles and dominate. Can kick a bag of goals and can get the ball because he can get to alot of contests and find space for himself due to his big engine. People call him a tall soft flanker which i dont really see, is rated a definite top 3 by everyone and it would be good to get him. I think the other problem is that people have never seen him play and asume that he is soft because of other peoples comments that have also never seen him play. Also can kick the ball 50+ on either foot and hit the guy on the chest, you have to see it to believe it. Morton will have no problems putting weight on as can be seen that he has gone from 75 to 79 since the champs....:thumbsu:

For me either Cotchin or Morton will do but leaning more towards Morton after seeing more tapes of him. Worried about Cotchin breaking a tag, and his injuries but can play though.

Hope people have now a better idea of Morton.
Its also fact that Jackson and Miller rate him really highly and as do other clubs.....I also know hawtorn rate him a top 3 aswell as stated by their recruiting manager.

My cousin from perth knows a few talent watchers and he got some tapes and passed it of to me. Its got alot of the potentials from this years draft. There is tapes of cale morton from early in the season and plus the champs games that ive watched over and i would be extremely happy to get him. I to thought he was an outside soft flanker because i never watched him play and assumed this because i read it on bigfooty. Dont listen to noone because 95% of ppl have never seen him play. The kid will be a gun and is by far the most talented out of all the mortons...:thumbsu:

Also forgot to mention that i also watched the colts preliminary final where if it wasnt for morton claremont would not of made the granny. Dominated and i think he kicked 5 goals.

Dont get me wrong i also rate Cotchin right up there in the top 3. Either way we will get a gun..

You seen tapes of other players that you might like us to recruit at 18 or 19???

I have a few in mind that might be around 18, i think rance might slip, just have a feeling. Also i really like the look of Gourdis and Notte both tall marking options, Although Notte looks really skinny. There is Mcginnity (sorry for spelling) rate him pretty higly aswell. Destroyed Cotchin in teh WA VS Vic Metro game. Also wins his own football and shuts his man down.
From victoria i liked the look of Jack Grimes, is a natural leader and can play anywhere besides kpp. Also i like the look of Mcevoy, Selwood and Maric (reminds me of the way N Brown plays and can take a good mark and is a deadly accurate shot for goal. Dont know if he has the engine to play midfield but is a classy player.
If anyone wants to know more about morton just ask away.......

Agree, though I don't think it'd be as big a mistake as you do Straw, but a mistake nonetheless, for two reasons:

1. Sure, Morton could play a flexible role as maybe a tall forward or even a tall defender, but with Johnson getting long in the tooth and the unknown with Coughlan, midfielders are probably a better option. Enter Cotchin.

2. Picking up a Western Australian would make me nervous about whether they get homesick (as we've seen with Judd and many others before him) in two or three years after the hard work has gone in and they have developed. At least Cotchin is a Vic boy so there's no incentive to go interstate.

Just my views though.

I keep hearing about trents silky skills is he a similar type to deledio?.

Also about Morton's attitude it is total crap, the kid is well spoken and down to earth. Is a natural footballer.
I hate how all these people talk about these young kids.
Also about JON my cousin said he was higly rated by the talent spotters and said once he fills out will be a gun. Said he has no confidence and has done no pre seasons but assures me we will have a player on our hands.

Agreed JON will be good

When he fills out, hes going to lose pace. Which means he will have nothing because he has no skill. Or no confidence in his skills. But i've never seen anything that says to me "naturally skilled", everyone always gives the essendon vs richmond point on the run example. IT WAS A POINT EVERYONE! A clutch player would have iced it.

LMAO at people in various other threads using a point from one game a year ago as an example of a kids potential :D

have only seen tapes of cotchin 3 or 4 times and indeed he has silky skills..dont know which afl player i would compare him to although a mix between a deledio and a judd ( massive wraps i know ) there also the 2 players he idolises so i saw a few of their traits come through but a class act!
and u really cant go wrong with a vic boy..unless starved for opportunity wont want to relocate..

Morton sounds like a freak. Great speed, excellent endurance, strong grab, elite kicking on both feet... what would you say his chances are of becoming a future CHF?

Atm we are screwed without Richo. Cleve shows little and Jack might not be a proper KPP.
