Triggy

Anyone catch Triggy on 5AA? Nothing new really - similar to what he said to the media earlier this week. He was very strong on stating that Craig has made us competitive for 4 years and 4 weeks of adversity wont result in ANY changes at the top level. They are in a hole but he said the players "love" Craig and there is strong belief within the group.

He also talked about the game plan. He said that while it looks like the game plan is one-dimensional and very straight forward, he said there are many variations to the game plan that people dont notice. Anyone have any ideas what these changes might be? I watch the game plan quite closely and these changes are subtle but I dont notice anything - then again, Im not the most astute when it comes to tactics and strategy.

Overall, it was quite a short interview but the message from Triggy was patience from the fans, persistence from the club and 100% support for Craig. You would obviously expect nothing else from him.

It is only four games after all. Four bad games taken in isolation in a relatively successful six year coaching career isn't necessarily a big deal. But...

What is worrying is that this was supposed to be the culmination (echoes "culmination" and gives fist pump) of several years work.

We were on the crest of something in 2009, or so it seemed. It is looking eerily like 2009 was in fact the last hurrah of the Goodwin-McLeod-Edwards generation and that we are actually years away from meaningfully challenging again.

Hopefully it's just 4 bad weeks.

As opposed to my usual posts...

Actually I thought it was one of your best :D

"Subtle changes" in game plan are not going to show up when the original game plan is being muddied beyond recognition by poor skills and a lack of confidence. The game plan may very well be awful, and certainly ideas like emptying out the forward line sit very poorly with me, but at the moment we wouldn't know it because we're not seeing the game plan. One thing we can say for certain is that the game plan is most certainly not hesitating every time we get the ball and then firing a hospital handball to another player in a similar or worse position.

What does purchasing our season ticket entitle us to?

I'd regard a season ticket as a speculative investment. You don't know quite what return you are going to get. This is why the footy season is so exciting, it is a leap into the unknown. On average you will make the finals half the time. And you will win a flag 6% of the time. And you don't know when the 6% will come along.

Do we have the right to get abusive because were going to finish lower than the club expected? Did we not have the opportunity to view our list and all the other lists in the AFL and make an informed decision about how we'd go this season?

Shame on us. It was our money and our poor judgment. But Neil told me we'd be top four wah wah.... Well, Neil was wrong. Lucky he didn't tell you to spend up big on Firepower too

Do you get your money back if the movie is bad? I'm going to drive to the director's house and really let him have it. He made some appalling casting choices and those costumes were hardly Elizabethan period.

What about at the TAB. Can I have my money back? My horse ran too slowly. I thought he'd be faster. The trainer said he'd prepared beautifully.

When we're yelling abuse at NC from the bleachers I think we're really just angry at ourselves. How could we have been duped so utterly and completely? A fool and his money...

great post Carl :D more please

wern't you just praising our backline coach as being able to pat himself on the back?

now you're worried about the appointments of Hart?

fwiw. Matthew Clark is the only of our major coaches that I would have their job as safe

Neil Craig - responsibilty will always fall to the main guy
David Noble - been around forever, what has he actually done?
Todd Viney - it's effectively his gameplan we're installing, and it's his gameplan that's ****ing up
Mark Bickley - he was just 1 ex-crow too many
Ben Hart - undecided. Would of prefered some random from elsewhere, but he has been ok

Correction we were trying to play his gameplan last year until then hawthron game. After that he and Craigy had that argument and Viney was told that he would have the midfield taken away unless he went back to coaching the 2008 structure so he is pretty much a sychophant now.

crows98 - I'm sick of people hiding behind "passion" as an excuse to act like a social misfit. (Not accusing you of being one - you were only witness to the abuse)

Passion is what makes us supporters pay our hard earned money to go and watch matches, even when we're losing. It's what makes us buy memberships, and spend hours discussing the club, watching them at training, buying their merchandise, and so on. It's what makes us cheer and scream at football matches.

But yelling abuse at players and coaches? Serious, vitriolic abuse? That doesn't show passion, simply an inability to deal with frustration and disappointment in an acceptable manner.

^^^^^^
Great post.

Great post.

Yes but if one pays to see football then they expect to see football (good or bad)

Anyway, i was just being facetious..... i agree with your post :thumbsu:
So-called supporters eschewing their vitriolic prose at coaches, players, club should have a look at themselves.
Perhaps they can channel their passion into some thoughtful criticism instead of abusive tirades.

If we lose to Footscray and then Port Power.... then what we have seen/heard now will be nothing compared to what will lay in stall then.
Interesting times ahead.

PS We are still more than good enough to make the finals, and once there its another ball game.

Tippett also said the boys 'loved' Craigy last night; said it in the flow of a conversation, when they questioned him about it, he was a little embarrassed and said they obviously didn't 'love' Craigy, but that they all had an enormous amount of respect and affection for him.

I’m not having a go at you but what else is he going to say. No, we hate his bullshit tactics and inability to change. Of course he’s not – it’s just toeing the party line. It’s the same as when Andrew Jarman didn’t play for Robert Shaw back in 96, his name has a red mark though it for the next coach.

360 degree feedback? you think that gets you honest opinions? wow.
:) You'd prefer the old "froth at them until they come good" ? IIRC haven't they had AIS psych's and other sports coaches chat about stuff like that ?

One could suggest as professionals that they are unlikely to be as gullible as you'd like to think and are implementing professional measures to maximise team effectiveness.

If you have alternatives in respect to culture and performance, then great!, go ahead and list them and then email the club with the link.

I deal with slightly higher level professionals than this. ;)

anyhow, I find it funny you're going round trying to dig up all these threads you've been called out in, only to bump them with even more empty, nothing comments.
