Crameri running towards goal with no one in between him. Would expect him to run in and kick a goal. Adelaide player (not sure who) dives and ankle taps him. Looked deliberate.

a free payed for tripping!

WHERE WAS THE 50? WHERE IS THE REPORT?

If I was fletch I would be walking into the Tribunal on wednesday night Windmill punching.

dogs.

Has to be cited and possibly suspended.

Surely both will happen. clear intentional trip. but correct me if I'm wrong, but doesnt a trip 'suspension' only equate to about 60 points, so needs carry over points to miss a match?

If nothing happens I am going to throw faeces at Geischen's house, spider monkey style.

I honestly didn't think there was much in it...it was a feather touch. Shit happens, kicked the goal, we won. Move on

He missed the goal but they kicked it back to him & got it on the second attempt. The point is that he was running into goal & the only thing that stopped him was a deliberate trip. He should definately be cited.

Andy Otten received a reprimand for the trip. There's footage on the AFL website. When looking at it in slow motion, it seems like Otten brushed Crameri's foot without applying enough force to drastically affect his running motion. Crameri then trips over his own calf. Wouldn't have warranted more an a reprimand, but it deserved the free.

Really?

It was a textbook trip. You tap the person's foot/ankle causing it to go behind the other leg, resulting in the person to kick their own leg and trip over.

100% trip.

At least he got looked at.

That's all I wanted.

Fletch has a history,

Fletch only has a history because he's the only bloke they ever ping for it.

I'm just saying how it looked from my point of view. I still don't think it should have been cited, particularly when Davey's tunnel on Jaensch was overlooked, however there will always be people who disagree with the MRP. Either way, Otten will take his reprimand and both teams will move on to this weekend's match.

Didn't see the incident or anything, and I know it's a rule, not saying this specific incident should or shouldn't have been a free.
But can anyone explain to me why you cannot tackle a player around the legs or ankle tap in AFL? I've never understood why that rule is there.

Thanks for the replies guys, had never heard of that. But it sounds like a bit of a freak accident to me.
You can tackle around the ankles and ankle tap in both rugby codes, American Football ect, and I've never heard of anyone breaking their leg from it. And obviously there have been more recent broken legs in the AFL (which as far as I know haven't been from tripping).

Just did a spot of research and appaerently Foster's broken leg was from a "kick to the shins". I'm not questioning tripping with the feet/leg, that is illegal in most sports. I'm questioning not being allowed to tackle around the ankles/ankle tap.

I can guarantee you it was a trip aka ankle tap.

As for Davey, surprised he didn't get done for it, tbh.

Crameri wasn't tripped.

Watch it again carefully, you'll see that Crameri runs off a legitimate tackle and trips due to his right foot hitting his left leg.

I thought we were extremely lucky to get the free (even if Crameri looked like he was getting back up pretty quickly after falling down).

Watch it again, it was not a trip.

In League, not sure about Union, you cannot tackle a player below the waist or try to trip them if they are in the motion of kicking.

In AFL kicking is obviously a lot more prevalent and you don't have the opportunity to tackle a player's legs when they aren't kicking very often so it is outlawed completely rather than leave a grey area.

If you are comparing tackling between sports I think the "in the back" rule in AFL is much more bizarre and confusing. It seems like it has been around since day dot though and is a quirk, I suppose.
