im trying to print pdf files out but the text comes out as little squares instead of letters. The graphics print ok though. Does anybody know what the problem might be?

I think this is an issue with the PDF using embedded fonts that you don't have on your computer. Hence when you print it out the print processor doesn't know what to do, and prints little boxes for each character.

There is a fix. If you have Acrobat 5 (I think its the same in other versions), when you go to print the PDF, when the print box appears, tick the option "Print as image". This forces the whole page to be sent to the printer as an image instead of as text. It takes a bit longer and uses more memory, but hopefully you'll get the document out properly.

It's happened to me before. I have to print of PDFs because most of our lecture notes come in pdf format.

Anyway, I found that resetting the computer usually fixes it. I've tried completely shutting down the program, but that didn't work.
