Seems to be bit of a rising star off of the field does young Troy.
Being exposed to multiple roles within the off-field side of things

Did really well bringing in players to the VFL team last year.
Could be a great role for him.

Agreed. Thought his comments on KROCK last year when present were very insightful and analytical and not afraid to point out what was not being done without potting the bloke messing it up. Its a fine line he handled well.

Also he knows the GFL area well and got some good results in the VFL with players coming in and thru the system.

Given Wellsy wont be around forever its good to have another bloke get into the system at KP.

And it keeps the Selwood maifa happy.

Yeah I also liked listening to him on Krock. Actually had some decent information not just club/footy speak.

Would be interesting to know what the breakdown in responsibilities is between himself, Wells and the recruiters. Does this mean Wells doesn't have much of a role in actual scouting anymore? Is one of Selwood's briefs to try and bring players in via the various non-traditional methods that have emerged (academy, Category-B, VFL etc)? Does he have a role in scouting already listed opposition players?

Great appointment, wells needs help and is getting stale so a new set of eyes helping out with the caliber of Selwood is good management by Geelong.

Looks like Troy's new role is step one to an overhaul of the list management team to keep up with the increasing demands of the caper.

The Cats will install a revamped and better-resourced list management department in the coming years, according to chief executive Brian Cook.

The recruiting space has undergone significant changes in recent seasons, with free agency and increased player movement adding extra pressure to those tasked with some of the hardest decisions in football.

Across the past two years alone, Geelong has acquired the likes of Patrick Dangerfield, Scott Selwood, Lachie Henderson, Zac Smith, Aaron Black and Zach Tuohy via trade and/or free agency.

It has been a mountain of work for recruiting and list manager Stephen Wells and his team, but help is on the horizon.

“Most clubs run with five or six [fulltime recruiters], we’ve been running with three,” Cook told the Geelong Advertiser.

“That’s been an issue for us. Wellsy’s done an outstanding job, but the recruiting area is just becoming very demanding and very sophisticated.”

“It’s very analytical now. There’s trade, free agency, all those things have meant we’ve had to boost up in that area.”

“Even now we’re one or two short and we’re planning to increase the resources over the next couple of years.”

Fairly disappointing that we had been lagging that far behind in the recruiting department to be honest.

Maybe like the Neil Balme appointment to allow Bomber to concentrate on coaching this will allow Wells to concentrating on talent spotting rather than worry about the increasing intricacies of the draft.
