I see our chance for a premiership being 2006 to 09, this year and next were/are development and experience years. The experience being that of big games, and pressure games, this year has shown we desperately needed that experience. Development of key players - sandi in the ruck, he needs as much time in the ruck as possible to grow his skills and repertoire , and I see his improvement this year as being quite substantial. Polak, has spent a greater amount of time forward this year, but needs to bulk up, if he does then we could see a hugh improvement from him next year. If he can increase in size this may help is confidence as a forward, which is obviously low. Shammer, has been given increased game time and on-ball time and has really take his opportunities, the same could be said of Glimore and Smith.
What does this have to do with simmonds, I hear you ask, well he is being given the chance to develop in the position that CC believes he will be most effective for the team in the long run. If we wanted him to play in his best position that would, at the moment, be the Ruck, but that would mean less time in there for Sandi. I believe CC has got it right rotating the three big guys through center, with Sandi and JLo being given greater time due to JLo being the best at present, and Sandi possibly being better than the lot eventually. I have no doubt that Murphy will one day take his place at FF, but the kid needs more time to build him self up, just look at how out depth Polly has looked this year. If we were less one big man then he might have gotten more games and probably would have struggled like Polly has, which would not have been good for him I believe. Who knows though next year could see him take a big step, which would be great.
Snake may end up being traded eventually but I can't see that happening in the next 3 years, we will always need a back up ruckman, Brissy can attest to that. If we traded him before there was someone of greater ability to replace him we would be taking a backward step and possibly putting a kid in that might flounder.
We only need to trade for one midfielder the rest can be gained through the draft, Dunn being an example. We have other trade options at the moment, and I feel simmonds is too much of an important bridging player that will allow other to develop to be traded now.
