TSL Round 8 Fixtures

Lauderdale v North Launceston - Bellerive Oval (ABC1)
Hobart v Glenorchy - TCA Ground.
North Hobart v Clarence - North Hobart Oval.
South Launceston v Burnie - Devonport Oval.
Devonport v Launceston - Devonport Oval (N)

Lauderdale tackle North Launceston in the battle of the Bombers at Bellerive on ABC1's Match Of The Day.
North Launceston will be pumped after last week's win over Devonport and I don't think Lauderdale have ever won on Bellerive and doubt they will this week either. North by 22 points.

Hobart murdered the ball for a half against the Bulldogs last week but found a bit of form to kick 14.7 in a half of football (more than they'd kicked in an entire game in any other match this season) so they'll go in with some confidence.
Glenorchy are on a roll sitting in 3rd place on the ladder and won comfortably at the TCA last time by 92-points and have thrashed Hobart every time they've played in recent years.
I expect this one to be closer than last time (you'd bloody well hope so too!) but probably the class of the Norky boys will just get them over the line.
Hobart will give it a real crack, but I'd say Glenorchy by 40 in the end, a very good side.

North Hobart and Clarence meet at North Hobart again and this time I think the Rooboys will take the points, although North were much improved last week at KGV on recent weeks' performances.
Important game for both teams, the Roos have been a bit patchy this year and would want to claim another win here to get some momentum going.
Clarence by 8-points.

In the first leg of the double-header at Devonport Oval (one wonders if this is a sign that crowds in Launceston are struggling as this is the second week in a row a Launceston club has had its match moved to the coast), South Launceston tackles Burnie.
The Dockers beat Launceston in horrificly windy conditions at West Park last week and South got run over in the second half by Hobart.
The Dockers should easily defeat the young, developing Bulldog team, weather depending of course.
Burnie by 76-points.

Devonport take on Launceston under the lights at Devonport at 6pm.
Launceston took it right up to Burnie last week and at one stage led by 40-points but with winds of up to 140kmh against them in the final quarter, they couldn't get over the line.
Devonport suffering a shock loss to North Launceston won't be all that happy and this game should be a tough one.
Devonport to win, just, but if the Blues snagged a win it wouldn't be a big shock.

My thoughts KP...

Next Week's TSL is again a bit of a genetic assortment with Hobart again hosting Glenorchy and North Hobart hosting Clarence, both from the "Round 1" fixture. And again the main focus is on North Hobart where the Roo's will start favourites against a North Hobart side that just haven't found form, despite their narrow loss to Glenorchy last week. The Roo's with their forward and midfield lines firing should atone for their Round 1 defeat with a good win. Lauderdale will host North L'ton at Bellerive and this looks an interesting match on paper, but Lauderdale will not have their coach Cam De Gooyer as he is injured and this could be the difference in this one. While Lauderdale were good last week, North got back onto the winners list with a confidence boosting win against Devonport and should continue here against their Bomber cousins. Another double header this week sees South play Burnie at 3:30 where Burnie should be handsome winners and Devonport back in home comforts host Launceston at 6pm. Devonport playing an injury hit and crisis ridden Launceston should get back onto the winners list after their shock loss to North L'ton while Hobart who are one win behind 6th place might find things tough against the in form Magpies.

Tips: Glenorchy by 45, North Lton by 35, Clarence by 28, Burnie by 80, Devonport by 36

Quarter time in the senior match at Devonport saw Launceston 4.7 (31) lead Devonport 0.3 (3) at last report.

No worries CB, was just doing all the washing up here LOL.

Looks like another wind-affected night on the North West Coast, Launceston leading by 28-points at Quarter Time, in the second quarter Devonport struck back with 6.2 to 2.0 to go into the long break trailing by only 2-points.
In the third period of play, it looks like either it's very blustery or actually raining as only one goal was scored for the term (by Launceston) to go into the three-quarter time break 7.9 (51) to 6.7 (43) up on Devonport.

A good day of football in the TSL.
In the ABC1 game at Bellerive, Lauderdale jumped out of the blocks early to lead quite well over North Launceston, but the Northern Bombers gradually pegged them back and ran away with things, the 'Dale made a late charge but it was all too late.

In an excellent game at the TCA Ground, the vastly improved Hobart Tigers won for the second week in a row on their home turf before a very vocal crowd.
In an arm-wrestle early, the Magpies threaten to blow the game open at various stages but the Tigers stuck to the task well and put relentless pressure on the Pies and raced away to lead by 25-points at three-quarter time.
The final quarter was a tense one, Hobart's concentration slightly dropped off, the Magpies were peppering the Horace Smith Stand and were on the receiving end of some extremely generous umpiring decisions which was a bit disappointing because the umpires had been good for the rest of the day.
In an extremely tense final few moments, the crowd were at fever pitch (reminded me a lot of the old TFL days), the siren sounded and the roar from the Main Stand was tremendous.
Tigers 6-point winners.

North Hobart and Clarence staged a thrilling and high-standard duel at North Hobart.
Dutton 8 for the Roos and Devine 7 for North the standouts, with North having the best (only slightly) of the first half before the Roos bounced back in the third and hung on to win a thriller by 5-points.

Burnie gave the inexperienced South Launceston Bulldogs a 117-point hiding at Devonport to remain top of the table.
Not much to be said about that result, the Dockers just too good for the Dogs, but I don't think the Dogs are all that bad either.

Devonport came from 5-goals down at the first break to get themselves into a winning position at three-quarter time before going in for the kill in the final quarter producing 7.3 to 1.0 in the that final quarter to beat Launceston by 31-points.

Final score at Devonport Oval:
Devonport 13.10 (88) - Launceston 8.9 (57)

Fantastic game. Devonport played really well and Launceston were terrific in defeat. Took a gamble when Derby unable to play pushed Whiting back into defence and it was a master stroke move that nearly came off. Launceston had chances early in the game but were unable to convert. Disappointing preformance from the umpires who were disgraceful and have been for the majority of games. So to was the report of the game done up by M Williams. He really displayed his alligence to those in the know. The battle between Savage and Reynolds was fantastic. Both players should be applauded for the work rate and the contest they provided for those who attended. Mott who was not mentioned in the best players was terrific with his ball use going inside 50. With the stupid final 6 setup those sides that finish 5 and 6 can still win the flag. Launceston with their best players back on the back of last nights courageous effort will be there or about come the last 2 weeks in September
