Did Essendon go into 2011 with the mindset that Fletcher is not part of their next premiership and therefore shouldn't play except as a backup?

Or did they pick the best side available to represent the club and the rest takes care of itself?

LoL, so now Tuck is of the same quality as Fletcher??

Slight difference in quality between Tuck and Fletcher, if thats what you comparing.

No, I was contrasting the mind set supposedly behind leaving Tuck out with the fact that if you'd asked James Hird why he'd bother playing Fletcher if he wasn't going to be part of their next flag, he'd turn around say 'who says we can't win a flag this year? Who says Dustin won't play for another five years?'

They just beat two finals contenders and have real momentum for the season, we've been in winning positions against two finals contenders too, but we have no wins and zero momentum.

One team is playing its best-22 regardless of age or any other factors, the other is dicking around leaving out a bloke who improved on the things they asked him to work on last year and was comfortably in our top-10 players, arguably top-5.

One team has confidence it can go with any side this year, the other has started by being found wanting three times against three finals contenders, two of them very winnable games, then one where we talked ourselves up and got smashed.

Nobody can seriously argue that blokes like Watson and Stanton haven't been just as guilty or worse than Tuck when it comes to butchering the football, both have been renowned for it in the past. Tuck's form last year was better than either, if he was at Essendon he'd be playing and he'd be helping them win games.

These are the things I'm comparing. ;)

Definately time.Whilst Tuck rots away blokes like Houlli are stealing games.
Morton was horrific, connors etc, If there were genuine players in the side ahead of Tuck with a real chance of making a difference in the next 5 years it wouldn't worry me.
This is not the case. There are blokes out there who under no circumstances are going to be playing for Richmond in 2013 just like Tuck.Difference is right now Tuck is a very usable commodity, still an integral part of the side in reality and of no value playing for Coburg.

The knock on Houli was always the limited exposure he got at the bombers ... his reason for leaving .

so what better way to find out whether he has the minerals than throwing him in against the silk ?

Tuck will no doubt get his chance ... but i'd rather be finding out now whether they are any good or not , instead of sending the likes of Houli back to Coburg after one indifferent performance. What does that achieve ? He would most likely get a couple of BOGs back there ... we'll all be bleating he wasn't given a go and everyone would be none the wiser ;) I have no doubt when they were considering recruiting him he would have sat down and spoke to Dimma and said he wasn't given a fair go at Essendon etc. etc . ... so Dimma is saying "alright sunshine , show us what you've got"

Yeah I know you'e right, but I'm getting a sneaking suspicion that we're finding out just why he never got an opportunity!

Sage words Iddy....

If Tuck is to come in its for Edwards, not Hellbig or Conca.

a little different angle. and yes im on the tuck bandwagon. always have been. in saying this ive been one who has constantly said we need to find a more rounded inside player to tuck.
to me we made a mistake in promoting miller straight away. to me we have a promising inside player in pat contin i really would have liked to have got games into this bloke.
if we are not to play tuck we should at least be playing an inside player in his stead.

to me we can afford to play 4 poor users. to me those 4 are tuck, jackson and yep ive called for his head and said in the past we cant play both but id rather see jackson tag than white. gourdis because we are screaming out for a big bodied key defender more than anything and at the moment there is no other big bodied defender and last jake king who is kicking a few goals and doing a defensive forward job atm, as long as he continues to kick a few goals i can live with him for now.he will at least stand up for the kids.

hmm why did he get limited time at essendon. now the answer to that would be the real knock on houli. you know the answer as well as me.

Yep I'd be happy with that,Edwards is going up and down on the spot,he has as much future at the tigers as Tuck.Who is the better player? No brainer really. It's not just Edwards though.

Yeah ... and although the current model of the bombers is only a feotus there are plenty that are punching well above their percieved weight under the incumbant regime ;)

For the record i have not offered my opinion on whether i think the boy can actually play or not ... just tapping into the logic of current selections which are starting to be questioned .

If the reasons why he couldn't get a game at Essendon are shining through now then that is so much better for the RFC than finding out in usual tradition of around 4-5 years down the track ... i'm sure you'll agree Santa :D

Geez, tuck is a tough one, clearence machine but butches it alot. Not a bad kick up forward imo, could we use him their he could be very valuble their i think, i think he should come in when the younger players get tired but hey thats my opinion. Also the problem is though his days are numbered, then again he could play till his 41 lol
