Let's put your selection credentials on the line. Please pick the worst XI you have seen play from your home country from any era. Us poms have a huge advantage, with far more "talent" to pick from. Let's see how badly you can do.........

i'll kick off:
England 1985-present:

1. Mark Lathwell
2. Tim Curtis
3. Alan Wells
4. Aftab Habib
5. James Whitaker
6.Chris Cowdrey
7. Warren Hegg
8. Mike Watkinson
9. Shaun Udal
10. Tim Munton
11. Mike Smith

Where are Jason Gallian and 'Lion King'?

I think maybe Ian Greig may have a chance of squeeking in somewhere. I'm struggling a bit for really bad keepers.

Wayne Larkins must have been close to a run!

LOL:D

bit harsh on Nick Cook and Ramps

come on you aussies you must have had a few bad uns in amongst the legends?....

For the England keepers don't forget that Richard Blakey played a couple of One Day Internationals. Looked like a rabbit about to be run over..... and was.

Min Patel and Ronnie Irani must feature. Ronnie Irani.... I ask you?

No Kiwi's submitting entries. Or is that just NZ teams 1980-1992 discounting Hadlee and Martin Crowe?

Ok, here would be my "worst" Aussie side from 1985 onwards.

1. Robbie Kerr
2. Andrew Hilditch
3. Dirk Wellham
4. Greg Ritchie
5. Mike Veletta
6. Peter Sleep
7. Greg Dyer
8. Greg Campbell
9. Ray Bright
10. Scott Muller
11. David Gilbert
12th Man. Simon Davis

Cheers!!

Don't take the p1ss that was his stock delivery then the one that moved about 3 cm in was meant to have such shock value that the batsman was bound to give bat pad a chance-trouble is by this point bat pad was back on the mid wicket boundary with the rest of the close filders.:D

As for wicketkeepers Chris Read looked shocking to me- the look of terror on his face when he ducked that Chris Cairns 'beamer' only to find it was his slower delivery lolloping into his stumps will stay with me for ever.As for Blakey i think he actually kept wicket for us in India in a Test once to 'stiffen up the batting'-enough to say that he didn't succeed.

I would have Greg Thomas in there-he was so hyped up (worryingly like simon Jones now) as the great white hope-I still remember one of his open spells away to the Windies in 85/86 when Greenidge & Haynes went to town on him he had figures of something like 10-0-100-0 at one point & this was a test match-now i'm sure they couldn't have been quite that bad but that's what my memory is telling me.

Mark Illot is in with a shout in the bowling along with Richard Illingworth & Mark Benson was no great shakes.Matthew Maynard was cacking himself too much as well to score any runs.

As for Ronnie Irani crap Test player but they could do a lot worse than bung him in the 1 day side now-he's been on fire this season.

I remember Greg taking 2 Pakistani wickets in the first over of a test match in 1987. The sheer delight on the welsh dragon's face having sent 2 through the top order, was replaced with abject disbelief as he saw himself "munged" to finish over the 100 mark for his 13 overs or so.

Ah yeah, what an absolute shocker he was!! He used to bowl that wide of the stumps that the batsman couldn't even get a sighter because it was to far away!! LOL!! :D:D:D

1 Geoff Marsh (c) (most boring cricketer in the world)
2 Wayne Phillips (the Victorian one - what a huge head)
3 Simon Katich (so overrated he needs to go to NSW to get the almost certain selection that this brings)
4 G Ritchie (Go mahatma)
5 M Valetta ( couldn't bat for nuts)
6 Shaun Young (was in England at the right time)
7 S O" Donnell ( most overrated cricketer of my generation)
8 Phil Emerty (what the?)
9 P McIntyre (legspinner with only one delievery)
10 P Wilson (an honest trier but test match bowler he is not)
11 C Matthews (say no more)

12th man - Scott Muller (for dressing room harmony)

For Australia you must consider:

Murray Bennett: Bowled in the 1985 Oval Test wearing dark glasses. His guide dog would have done better.

Ritchie Robinson: Toured here in 1997 as back up keeper and batsman. Didn't think he was either.

Mike Whitney: Australia's answer to Tim 'Dog Food' Munton.

And Dipper. You really must be an Essex fan to put the case for Irani :)

Would that be the New Zealand team that was undefeated at home during the entire 80s?

I'll take the bait and come down to your level

Dr Justin Vaughan - Experimental test opener, no. 10 first class.
Blair Pocock - National embarrasment
Ken Rutherford (c) - Test captain, 60 tests, first drop, average 26.
Phil Horne - Superstar that just burnt too brightly.
Dion Murray - Just gets the nod over Blair Hartland
Lee Germon (vc) - Picked on his 'leadership qualities'
Murphy Sua - Couldn't even make the Tasmanian state side.
Chris Pringle - Showed up for 1 ODI and 1 test in a 7 year career
Michael Owens - Danny Morrison must have loved this clown
Mark Kennedy - Once bowled a 12 ball over, followed up with a 10
Mark Haslam - Please make the pain go away

You would be surprised just how easy it was to come up with playing eleven. These hacks wouldn't even make an Australian state side, and only two former test captains, beat that.

New Zealand unbeten at home during the 80's?

Must have rained a lot!

The three most potent contributors to NZ success during that period were 'Paddles' (OK a great), Martin Crowe and 'Umpire' Fred Goodall.

For the Kiwi side you MUST consider:

Derek Stirling
Jeremy Coney
Martin Snedden
Jeff Crowe (one of them must have been sired by the milkman)
Trevor Franklin (nice guy though)
Dipak (Worcestershire 2's to NZ Test team) Patel

Couple of hacks for possible inconclusion...

Oz wise...Glen Trimble got a mention? (a ODI player, but..)..Trevor Chappell, ...and plenty from the WSC era, but thats for another thread perhaps..

Kiwi wise..Gary Troup, left armer early 80's, Brendon Bracewell (John's brother) whose radar was worse than Chris Matthews...

Pom wise....where to begin....Ian Ward????, Ian Salisbury, Adam Hollioake, Derek Pringle......
