It's inevitable that Cricket Australia will trial this concept. It's been successful in England, so far (but people haven't really had time to get board of it yet).

My concern would be that most wickets could be of little value, but it'll be good to check it out.

I don't if the reason for this thread is that Australia & England are to play a Twenty20 match on next summer's Ashes tour but if not then you know now.:D

Personally as somebody who has very little interest in one day cricket I'm a big fan of the idea, 50 over cricket tends to bore me to tears, it's become so formulaic but with 20/20 you cut out the boring middle 30 overs & just combine the bish at the top of the innings with the bash at the end.

Perfect!

It is highly likely Twenty20 cricket will be trialled as part of the Victorian Premier cricket season this year. To be played on a Tuesday Night.

Nah us spinners wont die ! It will easy wicket time when everyone tries to tee off ! Just a bit more overspin than normal would result in plenty of stumpings ! I am looking forward to seeing the Twenty20 comp in Vic Premier Cricket. They need 8 sides for it to happen ! Hopefully my side puts its hand up !

The question is; can cricket sustain three different forms of the game at the top level?

Probably not so let's get rid of 50 over cricket & just have 20/20 & Tests, & yes I'm absolutely serious.:D

I personally love the concept of 20/20 cricket. Have heard about it in England and cant wait for it to come out to Australia. 50 over games tend to get boring in the middle overs, so the 20 over version will be a lot more exciting to the fans. i think that cricket can support 3 different versions of the game as every version is a lot different from the other.

Divi18 - I am from North Melbourne and I was told last night at training that we are entering a Twenty20 side in the Victoria Premier Comp this season.

I agree. The only interesting parts of a one day game now are the bits where the batsmen try to flog it at the start and the end, so why not get rid of them altogether? Put a note in the stats indicating that from a cetain date the only limited overs game played was the 20/20 format. No one really gies any credence to one day records anyway.

The first Six overs for the fielding restrictions and no more than five on the leg side after that. These are the pommies rules. Look on cricinfo for a PDF file with all the rules and conditions. It should damn exciting cricket when the Pomms are scoring 200 per 20 overs and some guys like Andy Symonds are making 100's ! I can't wait to be launched onto the roof of the grandstand at Arden Street and getting the ball back with stamps on it :D

another vote with dip and mog that i wouldn't really cry over the loss of 50 over cricket. what used to be exciting can get really boring for long stretches. bring in slog cricket. introduce indoor cricket rules ie. dismissals count as negative runs.
