A very good horse but far from great and "superstar" is being ridiculous.

If i had a choice i would like to see her racing still but her reputation would only go south as she comes up against the quality horses. Moody did fantastic to squeeze out another G1 against a bunch of old stayers first up.

i think she was a great horse 6 group 1"s horse of the year title is a good effort but she wasn't a champion she was ALONG way off some of the other mares that have raced in recent times

Yeah its debatable, some people like her but 3 of those were against fillies and mares, Both the Orr's were against old stayers getting set for the Autumn Carnival and the Futurity field she beat was the weakest i have ever seen with 6 horses and Dao Dao and Snipers Bullet the main opposition. She always seemed to get found out when taking on the top opposition.

Her "Horse of the Year" title is good but it was at a time when Aus racing didnt have any real stars racing consistently while she was beating the other girls pretty easily.

She was very good but i think we have 2 mares racing at the moment who are clearly better than her in Black Caviar and More Joyous. Im not doubting she was a very good horse but just not a super star or a horse i got caught up with

Champion mare I can live with because she was nearly unbeatable against her own sex.

Did win Open Gp1's & despite the merits of her opposition, plenty of mares cant.

She seemed to suffer a bit in the last 18 months with her connections/trainer being unsure about her best trip.
The last minute Cox Plate change of mind 2 years running definitely tarnished her a bit IMO.
Not sure why they didnt roll the dice, plenty of inferior mares to her ran very well at MV

More of the story here;

http://www.races.com.au/2011/02/15/champion-mare-typhoon-tracy-retired/

Peter Moody has shocked the Australian racing industry today with his announcement that his champion mare Typhoon Tracy has been retired.“She gave her absolute all in that race and is still fatigued 72 hours after the run,” Moody said.
“We could have freshened her up for a tilt at the Brisbane winter carnival, but she’s achieved great things already so we’ve decided to retire her”
Typhoon Tracey is set to become a very profitable brood mare, with a career win percentage of 55%.

Sounds as if she was going to be retired to stud after the Brisbane carnival anyway, but she just hasn't recovered at all from the Orr.

Champion Mare by any standards, she will be sorely missed, but remembered by many race goers.:)

Very good horse, just below champion. Loved watching her run, getting to the lead and kicking away on the turn. Moody stuffed her a bit, tried to make her something she wasn't, but i don't blame him, when you have a horse as good as her you may as well find out what she is capable of.

Will be keeping an eye out for her offspring.

Totally agree on that point.

She is still a great mare though with 6 G1's to her credit. Not many mares rack up those numbers. At her best I think she was a champion - as represented by her demoralising victory in the Myer Classic in 2009.

Also agree that her career was hindered by being trained for the Cox Plate in two springs.

I wasn't really keeping up with horse racing at the time she was at her best. I find it hard to believe she was comparable to the likes of Sunline and co. Anyway, it's a shame for racing that she's gone into retirement.

I dont think anyone is rating her like that. If they are they have rocks in there head. She was no superstar just a very good horse

Her and More Joyous are very similar
Same sex or over 1400-1600 pretty much unbeatable

Neither have proved themselves outside them parameters, but all horses have their niche

My fav memories were her night debut at the Valley and flogging Danish and co in the Myer

I was shocked, but in hindsight it was the perfect opportunity to send her off. Had a fairly lacklustre spring and got to beat up on a weak field in the Orr before going out. As seth eluded too she often had a habit of dodging the big boys. Past her best now. I would be all over MJ had they clashed in the Futurity.

Mares that have been flogged to death racing rarely make good broodmares.

See Sunline and Makybe Diva.

Its usually to do with all the drugs these mares get in their systems, drugs to stop them coming into season is just the tip of the iceberg.

You usually find that a daughter of sunline will be useless as a racehorse but she will then become a brilliant broodmare.
