One of the deepest cards of recent times this one, and some of the strangest bout ordering you'll ever see.

Pantoja v Asakura - Asakura is legitimately good, but the closest line you can draw to the UFC comp is a loss to Manel Kape 6 years ago. You can usually fairly safely say the best of the UFC are the best in the world, and I'm very confident Pantoja is the world's best flyweight.

Rakhmonov vs Garry - Great fight, kudos to both guys for taking it on. I think Garry's speed and precision will be a problem, but Shavkat has a chin on him, and I don't think Garry possesses the power to trouble him. Perhaps a bit of back and forth on the feet before Shavkat gets him down and beats him up.

Gane vs Volkov - The winner of this becomes the #1 contender (ignoring the current shitshow in HW), so very intriguing fight. I'm thinking Gane's lack of urgency will be his undoing, and Volkov will fight a smart fight to a decision win.

Evloev vs Sterling - Really interesting fight, and I keep going back and forth. Evloev isn't exciting, but he's very good everywhere, and I'll go with him getting the win and likely at least a #1 contender fight next.

Plenty of interesting fights on this card.

But I don't even know who either of the main event fighters are, and given they are flyweights, I don't really care.

Probably the Smith vs Reyes is the fight I care about the most, other than Gane vs Volkov.

There's no way someone who follows the UFC is more interested in Smith vs Reyes than Shavkat vs Garry. No one cares about Smith vs Reyes.

Ignoring flyweights isn't uncommon, but man, you're missing out on quality fights.

I think he means Pantajoa and Asakura

Yeah I know, I'm referring to his comment re looking forward to Smith vs Reyes more than any other fight.
I'm kind of looking forward to the one too. More so than the first fight on the main card, maybe the first two on the main card

I mean, it's a nothing fight, but definitely agree it's better than Mitchell/Gracie and Landwehr/Doo-hoo. Evleov/Sterling is the one that seems very out off the PPV line-up.

I care about Smith vs Reyes because I have followed both of their careers for a long time now.

And for whatever reason I have a lot of sympathy for both of them and what they've gone through.

I still remember where I was when Reyes got close against Jones, some people in the pub felt he was robbed.

And then he suffered brutal KO after brutal KO, damn man in was rough.

As for Smith, I also remember where I was when he suffered that absolute beating from Glover.

'My teeth are falling out'.

I remember being angry at his corner for letting him go through that and not throw in the towel.

Then I saw Smith's interview a few days or weeks later and he said if his corner threw in the towel he would fire them.

Was he serious, or just covering for his team? I don't know.

So yeah I'm looking forward to that fight and I'll be very happy for whichever one of them wins it.

Hopefully not by KO because I don't want to see either of these guys KOd again.

As for Shavkat, I could walk past him on the street and not recognise him, that's how little I know of him.

And Garry, I never got in on the hate Garry and his girlfriend thing, in fact I thought the guys going hard at him for all of that were mostly losers.

But I watched his fight against Page and honestly it was susprisingly boring. Point fighting from range.

So if I don't know one of these fighters and was bored of the other one last time, why would I be excited about their fight?

As for the flyweights yeah I'm sure there are some good fights but really to me it is like watching WMMA.

Rightly or wrongly I feel like I could get off the couch and beat them in a fight, makes it hard to watch as a viewer.

So I hope my explanation here has cleared up your confusion about my earlier post.

I don't know if I would be considered a 'real fan' or a 'casual' and I DGAF either way.

Pumped for this event. Top to bottom goodness! More pumped for the main after seeing some promos and highlights. First fight in the UFC and this Japanese dude, who has huge star potential, and he gets a title shot.

It's fascinating to see a fighter, that's never fought in the UFC, walk straight into a title shot on debut. Especially one from a country with huge potential like Japan. I think Dana would secretly want Asakura to win because it would open all kinds of doors for the UFC in Japan/Asia. It probably leads to the UFC altering their recruiting strategies as well because they've been so reliant on developing their own fighters through TUF/DWCS programs in recent years and it's entirely possible that they've missed out signing some great fighters as a result.

The most interesting fight on this card is obviously Garry v Rakhmonov. Undefeated v undefeated and the winner gets the next title shot. Huge repercussions for both fighters regardless of who wins.

Another fight, another fighter is allowed to get smeshed for minutes before the ref steps in.

Wtf is going on out there tonight?

Have to wonder why this fight is on the main card yet Aljo against another ranked fighter is on the Prelims?
Evloev v Sterling 10000% was always main card worthy.

Mitchell v Gracie on the main card was stupid and it looks a lot worse now

We saw Cyril get stuffed by some basic jiu jitsu by Jones.

And we know Volkov has some submission skill.

Let's see what kind of gameplan Vokov comes in with...
