WOW! what an awful show they put on today. There were many thoroughly disgusting "look away's" by the yellow fungus army today, but the hands in back to Maxy resulting in a goal was just rock bottom.

Sure, they don't all get paid, but it was serial today, kept them within 50 TBH

Although the umpires had a few shockers today, personally I think we got lazy in the two quarters post the first. Letting the dees kick 6 goals in the final is unacceptable.

Have to agree.. The umpires get caught up in the action and start grandstanding and just miss to many obvious frees, the two goals in a row Dees got through the missed Maxwell &Young were board line cheating !

Happens every week and every week we get rapped.

there were 3 absolute howlers in the last qtr. The Maxwell push into the bench, the Maxwell push in the back and the Young front on contact. All are paid 100% of the time in normal circumstances but weren't paid today. I have no idea why not, it was like the umpires went to sleep there for a while.
Funnily enough, I believe all 3 missed calls resulted in a goal to the demons in the following play.

It's almost like they want the underdog to win so they make "non-decisions". So many throws went unnoticed and then they picked out Thomas' one where it wasn't conclusive. And yes those three non-decisions all resulted in goals to Melbourne.

I've been watching footy for 48 years and I am disgusted with the slow but sure increase in 'pity' frees in last quaters over the last decade or so when a team is well down.

Im wondering if the umpires are starting to feel that it is their responsibilty to make sure we have a goodTV show and not just to umpire to the rules.. In the richmond game and others the amount of times a backman was told to play on just because the ump thought he was in the clear.. or calling play on(not 15m) after a 25m kick just because they think its agood idea to get the ball moving quickly out of the backline. Not sure if i have made myself clear but yes I think the umpiring has been a bit dodgy lately.

They were average both ways to be honest. The Jodie McKenzie chop of the arm free kick to Daisy in the 3rd and Fasolo holding the man in the last were pretty soft, even though the first didn't result in a goal.

And why the hell was the umpire trying to call a review after the all clear? Poor day by the umpires, and I'm certainly not an umpire basher.

Yep, went both ways. Umpiring was bloody shocking. Especially the review for the point/out of bounds one. That was the worst and most pointless thing of the game.

That is the true push in the back, yet we are seeing less and less of these paid and instead soft, pissweak ones where apparently a hand in the back constitutes a push. The rule was made to prevent dangerous things like what the Melbourne player did to Elliot (or Tapscott and Dunn both to Maxwell for that matter), not to make the umpires job easier (the reason the hands in the back interpretation was brought in in 2007).

Agree with this. Those 3 misses in the last quarter could have happened to either side. There is a 50-50 chance that a bad decision is going to go against you. Unfortunately those 3 mistakes in the last quarter all went against us.
