Umps

Was at the game and so its a bit hard to tell whats a free kick and whats not, but there did seem to be alot go against us at some stages. The replay will be interesting.

Umpiring was beyond a joke today.
If Paul Roos doesn't have a photo of Gieschen performing unspeakable acts on a sheep I'll be flabbergasted - it was blatant anti-geelong umpiring today.

My top 3 incidents.

1)The swans defender running from the defensive goalsquare onto the half forward flank without bouncing the ball - no "travelling" call from the ump in perfect position

2)Mark Blake's mark in the goal square that was called play on. Again, ump called play on in perfect position

3)(Multiple) Swans players constantly being caught holding the ball and blatantly throwing it out or disposing incorrectly - yet still not being pinged for holding.

I was with a fairly one-eyed crowd watching the game on tv, sure some were peeved at some of the free's. In hindsight some were fair enough, however there was some real shockers paid today.

Usually the umps will have one or two bad decisions, today you'd be lucky to have enough fingers to count the glaring errors.

I'm not saying they were all for the Swans either, some against were woeful also.

Definitely hit the ground, spilled when he fell to the ground.

Though in your third point, agree there. Blake was pinged in the middle of the gound, yet two swans players in the same quarter were tackled without making a clear kick at the footy and it was play on.

Goodes especially looked after by the umps. You'd think he got the 3 votes from today by the way the umps were handing him the ball.

Let me just say that normally I wouldnt swear at the footy, but today I dropped the F bomb on several occasions. It wasn't all one way however, there were a few that Sydney should have got for sure.

I stand corrected - i was sitting on the wing so I'll pay that.

Still, the umpires were handing it to the swans on a platter - especially in the third quarter - woeful.

I dont know what position you were in with incident number 2, but that was definitely not a mark.

The worst decision was the play on when Kirk brought down the Geelong player (Selwood????) on a Sydney kickout. Every single player had stopped, assuming it would be a free, including Sydney players.

No way. The worst decision by far was the crap free paid from a shepherd (totally legal), done by Hunt which lead to a shot 10m out. Hunt went to shepherd the point kick in, did it fairly and within 3m of the ball yet was penalised. Over officiating!

Is this footy anymore? That umpire needs be assessed for glasses.

I noticed lil' hungry (Kev Bartlett), had a go at the MRP about West's bump, is he going to have a go at this? Absolutely disgraceful. Attitudes such as Kev's are killing the game.

Long live the bump! Keep it free!

KB. What a dork

The Hunt decision was the biggest shocker. It was a totally fair bump. It's like if there's any hard contact the umpires feel they have to blow their whistle

You are spot on, that was a shocker!

the worst one was for a high tackle that was not hight at all in the swans 50 l think it was enright the tackler ?? cleanly not high oh umps

Or the Pris getting it across his chops in the Swans 50m, to only hear play on. Mind boggles what umps see sometimes.

I actually think generally the umpiring has gotten better round by round, which is why this is such an anomaly.

One question: is Mooney ever going to get a free kick? He's not the only big forward who struggles to win them (ask Richo), but I reckon he gets the worst side of the deal more than most.

What frustrated me today was the inconstancy with the application of the 15m kick/mark rule.

Simple answer is:

<-----------------> Swans 15m
<----------------------------------> Cats 15m

Some of the decisions today were insane. Calls made by umpires out of position, different rules for each team, and some out right "Here you go Sydney have a free goal to keep it fair" Really disappointed me today.

Cheers

MC

The 15m rule was driving me bonkers!! I know I am one-eyed but it seriously only seemed to be called against Geelong (probably wasn't but that is how it felt).

The umpring seemed awful but that might have been due to the closeness of the game.

Can't say I noticed it in the last quarter:D

Always better to get a neutral observer's opinion on these things.
