Uni Blacks are killing them in C Grade this year. What would happen if they found themselves in a B grade grand final? Would they go to A grade?

Unless the promotion/relegation rules change, the sides which make the B grade GF automatically play in A grade the next year.

Thanks for the sacasim, but what I was trying to get at is would their be a problem because of Uni Blues (apart from the jumper clash of course).

How close are the two clubs? Do they train together? Are they totally seperate in everything they do??

OK - now you're getting into the seedy world of Melbourne Uni Football Club politics. If you have a spare, say, weekend, I'd give you the whole run down.

The clubs have totally different committees, playing lists, but I'm not sure about training nights. For all intents and purposes, they are separate entities both playing under the MUFC banner. If they were re-united in A or B grade, it'd be business as usual.

Consider this from the MUFC website:

"Possibly the strangest rivalry in Australian football, University Blacks and University Blues comprises two streams of the one club, the Melbourne University Football Club, but that doesn't mean they agree with each other. During the 1970s, when both teams were in A-section, student flakiness would go out the window as mates threw themselves into derby matches on the University Oval. In 1982, the Blacks' only win for the season was against the Blues. Since then, the Blacks have wallowed in lower sections and have commenced the journey back, prompting the question of whether they will ever play the Blues again. If they do, it will be a huge occasion in the curious world of amateur football."

No problem, but plenty of drama I'm sure.....

Interesting point.

However, given the Reds were always the poor cousin under the Uni banner - the relocation to Brunswick St Oval in 1990, coupled with the re-naming (or re-branding?) of the side to adopt the Fitzroy legacy in 1998 catapulted them forward in a manner I seriously doubt would've been possible had they remained a Melbourne Uni club.

It'd be fair to say whatever ties remain with Melbourne Uni, they are pretty tenuous now....

You're right, Scribe, they do have separate committees and playing lists. And no, they don't train together. They sometimes train on the same ground on the same night but they keep up their respective ends.

Usually the team with the home game trains on the Uni oval on thursdays while the other team gets it on the tuesday. The team not using the uni ground trains across the road at the Crawford oval at royal park..
