Unique/Different Accommodation

GD, it's Saturday before xmas and I am yet to do any shopping. I really am bad at buying your average gifts and prefer to give "experiences" (no sexy) as presents. Has anyone here done any forms of stays like glamping, eco lodge, river boat or the like and what was your experience like?

Specifically I'm thinking Pebble Point (http://www.pebblepoint.com.au/) which is pretty much a hut in the bush on the Great Ocean Road. Any help would be greatly appreciated at this late stage before I resign myself to buying socks and hankies.

A guy from work did the Great Ocean Walk and stayed at Pebble Point at the end. After 7 days hiking and camping out, it was very welcomed comfort.

He recommended it.

I did glamping once, as someone else's choice, and I was left feeling like it was a massive waste of money.

The eco-lodge at Bay of Fires is pretty great. Still too much money in my opinion, but I'm rather Scottish.

You can stay a lodge in the middle of the Canberra Zoo and have lions and bears stare at you eating dinner, I believe. http://www.jamalawildlifelodge.com.au/

There was an old jail at Grahamstown in the Eastern Cape that had converted it cells into rooms, it was pretty lo fi, but cheap as chips.
