Has been playing injured and has been badly mismanaged shifting him around all over the shop .
Next year should be all about the midfield and attacking winger ... back him in and cut him loose .
Not exonerating his poor form at all but i think this combination of lower back injury and shuffling around has fueled it somewhat .
The back end of last season he looked like one of the most exciting young players in the whole competition .

what hope do we have when talia, hartigan and kelly are in our back 6? not 1 elite ball user back there.
Talia stays but we need to replace Hartigan and Kelly with players that can use the ball.. hit a target
Sholl is sitting in the Sanfl. The guy can hit a bullseye on the left and right. He right footed but his left is just as good. Bring infor Kelly.

Righto who are the untouchables on our list and who can we trade to quickly turn our list over?

Untouchables - anyone who can run and does not just handball backwards to a stationary team mate .
No more hot potatoes . How many players are we left with ?? hmmmm

My list would be Talia, Brown, Keath, B Crouch, Sloane, ROB, Smith, Doedee, Himmelburg, Jones, Milera, Fog, McHenry, Stengle, McAdam, Scholl, Butts, Hamill, CEY, Laird, Seedsman.

As much as we would like to see the whole list turned over most would be 10-12 players gone this year.
Tex won't go. He will benefit from some quicker ball movement next year.

This year especially with our slow poor kicking backline in Talia, Hartigan, Kelly and a massively unconfident Laird the 6:6:6 rule meant opposition teams sat on our runners and good ball handlers and these defenders will invariably turn it over. I keep Talia as he is our best defender, but we need to find another key defender with speed and some others with speed and good kicking skills. Think we have these in Scholl, Butts and Hamill..time will tell. Is also why I would be keeping Keath.

Our midfield structure needs to change. We cannot have both Crouches in there at the same time and although Matt got 47 touches yesterday, out of the two I would trade him first. He has no right side and burns the ball by foot. Perfect inside player for the Suns as a distributor. We need pace and hardness. Jones in the middle from the beginning of 2020. Need to find a way to get pick 1 or 2 to get one of the two mids in the draft.

Himmelburg as our CHF. Stengle and McAdam in the pockets, Tex FF out of the goal square, no more of this all pushing up the ground leaving no-one in the forward 50.

Think Eddie will retire. Douglas and Otten already have and Mackay should be the next to go, if he thinks he can go around again, delist.

Trade or delist
JJ, Greenwood, Hartigan, Kelly, Gibbs, Sauce, Atkins, M Crouch, Lynch, Murphy.

Don't think the club has the balls to do it, would need to bring in some 22-25-year-old players from other clubs. Can't do everything through the draft.

Did u completely forget about Fog?

Don’t want any other players from rival clubs if it affects our draft picks. If we rebuild and play youth, we will be down for 2 or 3 years and get decent draft picks but come out stronger.

Fog, Berg, Doedee, ROB.

Milera has gone backwards faster than the club itself. Dominated preseason, good first month and since the ac joint has been barely SANFL standard. I wouldn’t trade but would be concerned if he repeats this next year

He seems to be very much a confidence player - looks a million dollars when it's up, and like utter garbage when it isn't. Has gone backwards this year, I think. He strikes me as a player who will play very well when the team is playing well, but when it's struggling like the past couple of seasons, he's not going to be the player to step up and lift his side.

That’s harsh on Milera, he’s been thrown around a lot this year and hasn’t settled anywhere. He should be left at half back and told to take the game on. He can have 5 minute spurts in the midfield if needed.

It is truly hard to judge the players this year as they haven’t really tried and are playing a real shit game style. Plus I don’t believe they are fit either.

And that of course has nothing to do with coaching staff and game plan/game style circa 2019?...

I'm too tired to list all of my untouchables I'll do that another time. However 2 I will list right now are M&B Crouch. I know they would both have excellent trade value but imo these are guys that you BUILD a side around, not get rid of. They are both in their prime and work so well together. If we're gonna offload some players then they should be similar players of their type that aren't as good and then attract some other mids with genuine speed and tackling skills.
I'll do my complete untouchable list another time .
Good thread.

Did you see Milera's kicking yesterday.
I have serious concerns about him being a bust, but one thing is for sure, he shouldn't be played in defence. Has looked good at times in the midfield

I don't. He's shown more then enough until the back end of this season (and suffered due to having no set role). No one is immune to the shit our staff ran, and the serious lack of fight we showed.

Get that fixed, and Milera will spike up as well.

My untouchables.

Jones
McHerny
Fogarty
Himmelberg
Gallucci
McAdam
Stengle
Matt Crouch
Milera
ROB
Talia
Doedee
Seedsman
Butts
Tex/Sloane

General gist of my thoughts here:

Forward line, Fogarty and Himmelberg are definitely a long term 1-2 punch with Himmelberg being able to pinch hit in the ruck. Give them time to build chemistry. Small forward wise, i'm pretty content where we are at as well, McAdam looked promising in the SANFL, and Stengle looks like he'll be a solid small forward.

Midfield wise. Jones, Milera, Gallucci and McHenry are our future midfield, don't trade them under any circumstance. ROB is a on track to be a very good long term ruck, and good enough currently that we shouldn't be entertaining the massive **** up that will be getting Grundy. Matt Crouch is not one to trade either, had a poor year but he's perfect foil for a midfield being someone who is capable of shouldering the inside work and allowing better players to excel, his value to us going forward is going to be far higher then what we could attract for him now.

Defensively. Talia is still reliable, and Doedee has shown a lot in his past season. Seedsman sits as the best of our outside core, and I'd be comfortable keeping Smith too (Though, not enough to put him in the untouchables). Butts should be developed as a CHB next season, we can afford the development year there.

Tex/Sloane most likely aren't tradable regardless at this point.

Jones
McHenry
Fogarty
Milera
Gallucci

The young first rounders who haven't had a proper go. All should be untouchable for the time being.

Sloane
Talia
O'Brien
Doedee

Two proven young players and our heart and soul senior leaders.

Everyone else is up for grabs

I just don't understand what the coaches see in him that makes them think he's an excellent defender. He can't defend.
He does have attributes to be an excellent outside mid, or even a high half forward.
Probably due to them having to squeeze mackay / douglas etc in and there is no space anywhere else

You've answered your own question. Half back flank is a part of the outside midfielder sphere role wise, and isn't a defensive role. Of the outside mid roles it is also the most vital one.

Especially as it has become more and more vital to have skilled ball movers back there seeing you need to break a zone to be able to score in the first place. Every side right now (and quite likely permanently) lives and dies on their offensive contribution at half back because the easiest place to pin a team is in their defensive 50. Countering that is much more important than preventing the occasional to rare goal (and I say rare because it's more then likely whoever stands on a half back is more focused on defense then offense).

Milera belongs there, truly (much more than he does forward which is wasting such a skill set), but as vital as it is, it's a stepping stone for midfield minutes. it is on the easier side role wise due to the amount of easy ball available.

Round 1 team.

F: Stengle Fog. Tex
HF. Lynch. Himmelburg McAdam
C. Seedsman Jones. Sloane
HB. Laird. Keath. Smith
B. Brown Talia. Doedee
R. ROB B Crouch Milera
I. McHenry CEY Butts (Pick 3 or 4)

Lynch is lucky, looked cooked for most of the second half of the season. Tex is as, but with a new forward set up that will come with Hart getting the boot Tex becomes the third tall and gets the third tall defender. Going with Jones and Milera in the middle. Hopeful we can somehow jag on of the top two mids in the draft with all the players we will be trading out. Otherwise, we need to be looking for some outside speed and good foot skills.
Just spitballing, but this cuts some dead wood and gives the young 2nd and 3rd-year players a good taste of AFL.

I like the way you're thinking, but M Crouch & Betts will almost certainly both be playing Rd 1. CEY and McAdam out
