The cats should make a list of untouchables and offer packages of the rest and draft picks in a bid to get the TWO key forwards they require to take the next step.

My untouchables are KING, SCARLETT, HARLEY, LING, KELLY, MACKIE, TENACE, BARTEL, ABLETT, CHAPMAN, S JOHNSON, COREY, MOONEY, MILBURN & CALLAN.

Thats 15 and 4 of those did not play on saturday night, so there are 11 players who played that I think we could use as trade bait. I don't want to get rid of all of them and would only trade if it meant getting a kpp.

Bomber Thompson has commented on not wanting to break up the team spirit that this group has and that's fair enough. As I am not in the inner sanctum I do not know about personalities, so who are the popular players that the club could not do without?

Mooneys going to richmond in another Thread, whats going on? :p

Reasonable list, but Id probably take off Callan and add Wocjinski and Hunt.

Have a good look at that other thread nana. Moloney not Mooney. Close.

I have changed my mind on Mooney after the last 2 finals. He has been great.

Callan will be better than both Hunt and Wocjinski within 1 or 2 years.

Ablett, Bartel, S.Johnson, Kelly, King, Ling and Scarlett would be my only untouchables.

No one is saying he did anything wrong, but if you put people like Josh in your list of untouchables you will never ever get any trades done.

An untouchables list should be for the true elite on your list, not solid contributors.

After the year Josh has had, i honestly dont think you could consider trading him. could you? it would have to be a fair player to entise a trade, i'd say!

geez you are a cracker mate. do you even follow geelong?? think you are reading too much into this untouchables cr*p, as the simple reality is that you don't trade players like josh hunt.

Even that list is too big. My criteria for an untouchable player is where there is absoultely no credible alternative for the critical role that that player plays in. It's not simply a case that they are very good. To me the only two players who meet that criteria are King and Scarlett. You might just throw in Ablett, not for football ability, but the huge backlash the club would receive if he was to go.

If Brisbane came to us and said, we'll trade you Brown (and there is always the odd rumour that he would like to return home) for Kelly, well I know what I would do.

Do you do anything but criticise and ridicule others for their opinion?

And as good and valuable commodity a player Josh Hunt may be, he would certainly be tradeable in my eyes if we were offered some certain players in return.

There is not a chance in the world that Josh Hunt will be traded this year, and rightly so. Thats Fact! Now that in turn makes him untouchable!

That is where you are wrong.

To use Jim Boy's example, if Jonathan Brown wanted back at Geelong and Brisbane asked for say, our first two draft picks and Josh Hunt in a deal, you'd be stupid not to touch it.

In terms of realism in this years trades, for which the purpose of this thread was originally started for and which I based my 'Untouchables' list upon, then Josh most likely will not be traded, but in theory he is not untouchable.

well said pumpa.

and yeah sorry about that critisising - just don't think that josh could possibly be traded, and thus there is no point even talking about it.

if jonathan brown wanted back at geelong there would not be one player on our list that would be untouchable. Poor example mate. Pull your head in!

Realistically, Josh probably won't be traded this year. That being said, I doubt we'll be trading the core our team this year either, and it is by this view that I base my opinion of our untouchables upon (Jim Boy take note ;)).

But to say Josh is untouchable along with the likes of Scarlett and Ablett is really garbage talk mate.

Ah, so now Josh is tradeable in some circumstances.

You argue that Josh will not be traded this year, and thus this makes him untradeable. I argue back that yes, it is highly unlikely that Josh will be traded this year, but nevertheless he is tradeable.

This thread's opinion's are teetering upon 'two facets of realism' if you'd like. There are some people here that are basing their arguments upon realism and the likelyhood of such trades falling down, others like Jim Boy are talking in more general terms, and thus more unrealistic terms.

I simply argue that in realistic terms Josh probably won't be traded, and neither will the large majority of names that have been flung up in this thread. However I also argue that in broader, general terms, Josh is certainly tradeable, and it is upon this term of which I base the Brown example case, much like Jim Boy did.

Oh and I wouldn't trade Scarlett or Ablett for Brown.

No, no i don't follow Geelong

When did i say we should trade Josh Hunt? I simply said he shouldn't be on our untouchable list, big difference.

While you've described my argument accurately, in that I was only talking in general terms, and Brown was a pure hypothetical case, I do believe there is a good chance of a potentially 'unpopular' trade this season.

If the club is realistic about going for a 'gun' forward this season, then it's unrealistic to think they can achieve that by offering pick 16 and a selection of fringe types like Spriggs. They can only do this by including one of our 'guns'. We'll be at the disadvantage in any deal simply because we are the desperate party. But despite that disadvantage we would be far better off with a 'gun' tall forward, than we would be with one more 'gun' midfielder or small forward and no tall foward.

So who are those potential players? Foremost in my mind is the need not to disrupt the 'espirit de corps' of the team. Disrupt that, and we might as well not bother. It would have to be a player who truly is quite happy to move on, but short of someone coming out with public statements, such as with Colbert, I have no idea of knowing who those players might be. Although as a betting man, I'd be looking at the interstate players closely.

They wouldnt have bothered signing him so close to the end of the season if they had thoughts of trading him
What if we want to include him in a trade with Ottens? If he was uncontracted why would Richmond bother trading with us if they could just take him in the preseason draft? It's much harder to trade players who are uncontracted rather than those who are.
