Bold Travis Johnstone, Matthew Whelan and Simon Godfrey and delete Jared Rivers (injured too often) and your list is spot on. :)
 
I guess this is in regard to trading and so forth... I just posted this on the West Coast forum, here is a trade that could happen and please all parties. Discuss:

Here we go... 3-way trade to satisfy all parties

- West Coast get: Fevola & Carltons 2nd round pick (most likely pick 20)

- Carlton get: Cameron Bruce, West Coasts 1st round pick (16) and Melbourne's 2nd round pick (18)

- Melbourne get: Chris Judd and no picks.


- West Coast pick-up the key forward they are after, and still have the strongest midfield in the competition with the likes of Kerr, Cousins, Fletcher, Priddiss, etc. to kick it to him = Fevola 100+ goals every season, and 5 more years of premierships to W.C. (Sad from a Melbourne supporters view).

- Carlton get a real good midfielder/key position player in Bruce, and pick up some fairly decent draft picks to rebuild (which is what they want to do)

- Melbourne gets Chris Judd, and no picks. Judd barracked for Melbourne as a child and if he were to return to Victoria, which could be the case if you had to pay for a Fevola, this could work out well for him.



I am being serious, I am not joking... I might get laughed at, but just throwing up idea's, which is what these forums are about
 
Combine them with White, Yze, Ward and Whelan who are probably too old to be wanted and add Bizzel, Brown, Carroll, Ferguson, Godfrey, Holland, Neville, Pickett and Warnock who wouldn't be wanted and your left with the following:

Buckley: Yet to see if he can make it
Green: Trade bait but I'd keep
Jamar: Trade
PJ: Keep, need promising ruckmen
CJ: Trade
Johnstone: Trade bait but I'd keep
Miller: Trade/Remodel with a new coach
Moloney: Too injury prone
Newton: Looks the future, wouldn't be traded
Weetra: Too early
Wheatley: Haven't seen his best, can still be a very good player

So I'd add Green and TJ to untouchables and leave Miller, CJ and Jamar as the only players on our list as worthy of being traded, which wouldn't result in high picks. IMO we have no Nathan Thompson and Jono Hays at the moment who could benefit from a new club and give us good draft picks.

mfcrox, Carlton have effectively traded Fev for Judd, the eagles wouldn't like that, and we have got Judd for Bruce and pick 18 to Carlton, if they have got Judd why would they want to trade him for Bruce and pick 18.

Are you sure? Didn't Fremantle trade their priority pick for Croad back when the PPs were 1, 2 etc?

I agree with demon21 to a certain extent but McLean is definately untouchable. I wouldn't trade him for any single player. Sure, if you offered me Pavlich, Judd and Brown it'd be hard to refuse but I wouldn't trade him for any single one of them. Why? Because he is the future of the Melbourne Football Club.

People other than youngsters (20 and under roughly) that are untouchable:

Neitz - Wouldn't be worth much anyway
McLean - Read above
Sylvia - Similar to McLean
Johnstone - Adds much needed class to our midfield
Davey - Johnstone in the forward line
Rivers - Defender of the backline. We often look like a rabble without him down there
Bell - Turning into a fine youngster and should be our best defender, along with Rivers, in a year or so
Robertson - Too old to be worth much and bleeds for the club. He's also highly marketable and well loved. Trading him, even if the trade itself was beneficial, wouldn't be worthwhile as he'd be too much of a loss. He's also a key component in what I'd like to view as a multi-pronged attack.

I nearly but Bruce but I can see him possibly being targetted by other clubs and I wouldn't say no if the perfect offer came along. I'd rather keep him though as he runs all day. We all critisise him a fair bit but I reckon we'd notice it if he wasn't playing for us.
 
Well we can forget about trading Bruce as he signed another contract this year, and can only be traded if he agrees to it.

for mine i think you need to make some changes and getting the best coach out there is ur best bet but who? lyon, voss? or some1 less known.

then i'll make mclean captain open a new era for the club and what players you have stated as untouchable build around that core group and those player you dont have as untouchable have trade value and would free up the $$ needed to chase judd and co as well as targeting up to 5 top 20 dps

Interesting mfcrox, but I would rather keep Bruce/Johnstone and the two picks than have Judd, because the 2001 draft had Jason Gram and Matt McGuire around those picks. McGuire, Gram and Johnstone strengthen your team more than Judd and two draft picks in the 60's do.

That trade could be good for us but i doubt it would happen. I think if that trade were to go forward Carlton would have to somehow get Judd.

can't really use the 2001 draft as a guide it was prob the best draft ever

Your trades keep giving way too much to Carlton and not enough to West Coast.
 
i think we need a clean out, get rid of b grade players for either young players from other clubs, or draft picks, however we do need to keep older players or we will end up like carlton.
Need to keep brock, sylvia, moloney, jones, bate, bartram, rivers, bell, flash, bruce, green, robo, frawly, pettard, tj i rekon, whelan, pj, we wont get rid of neitz or macdonald, if ive forgotten any one sorry

i think these players should go
-godfrey -only a bit player, need to stop having b graders playing
-holland - same has godfrey
-brown - to old n slow
-Miller - good trade bait

Yze, pickett wouldnt b suprised if they go

He is highlighted with ITALICS, which I stated 'should be kept because he is a heart and soul type figure of the club'... however he isn't untouchable in my opinion though, no-one over 30 is except Neitz in my eyes.

If a decent trade came up (although he's unlikely to be mentioned at his age), he is despensable... he on the way down, we have lots of younger midfielders to fill his position, and if a 1st round pick was offered for him would you take it???

I may seem heartless, because I know he and most of the other older blokes are adored by the fans (including myself), but at the end of the day we haven't won a premiership since bloody 1964, and sometimes the mind should come before the heart to achieve success.
