Hey guys, I have the iPhone 4 and am thinking about updating the software over iTunes to be up to date. However, I don't think i really need to? i know this may seem a bit of a pointless discussion but what is different in the newer version?

are there any benefits? I've heard that it could slow the phone down too.
thanks

What version are you running now?

If you're on a 4.x.x then updating will get you iMessage, Notification centre and a few other things, more info here: http://www.apple.com/ios/features.html

If you're already on 5.0.0 then upgrading to 5.0.1 will attempt to fix a battery drain problem that some were experiencing and a some other minor bug fixes from the initial release.

I had 5.0.1 on my 3GS briefly before i got my 4S and i thought it actually ran better than the 4.3.3 that was on it before so i doubt a 4 would have any problems.

Also if you are keen on jailbreaking it then there is a current break out for 5.0.1 so you should update to that before apple closes the loophole
