God. It even came in behind the PSP. I heard things weren't going so well for the PS3 but I had no idea they were that bad. I'd actually like to see the numbers on how many PS2s have been sold since the PS3came out.

Nevermind. Someone posted in the comments below the yearly figures and PS2 yearly figures are higher than PS3s lifetime figures so there's a good indication there.

Those are only US rankings... for the ps3 to be that close to 360 is pretty good.
500,000 for a system thats older in a christmas period is not close. In the US the PS2 killed the Xbox and PS3 was predicted to kill the 360 so its not good to be that far behind.

I find it funny how Karl Pilkington can preach his Blu-Ray/PS3 love affair in other topics, but not here.

I don't preach, I offer my opinion and back it up with logic.

I think it's well established the PS3 isn't faring so well in it's first year in the US. It hasn't got the games library to challenge the 360 as yet. But the 360 has fired it's big first salvo (even after being on the market for an extra year there's still really only a handful of must have games anyway) and the PS3 hasn't.

It's also well established that Blu-Ray is by far leading the format war. Anyone who even suggest HD-DVD will make a comeback is delusional, considering only two of the ten biggest studios in the world are supporting it.

When the big PS3 titles come out (metal gear solid, gran turismo, final fantasy 13) we can see how it stacks up compared to the 360's big titles (Gears of War, Halo 3 and Bioshock - all of which are already available or will shortly be available on pc anyway).

Mind you, I've got a feeling that as soon as the PS3 starts beating the 360, we'll see an announcement from Microsoft for a true next-gen console coming out in 2009 - as clearly the 360 is a stop-gap solution.

That's exactly what I am talking about. This topic is about console sales and you bring up the format war.

Although it Blu-Ray isn't winning - it has won.

I believe the post before mine (yours) brought up the format war in this thread.

And it is, generally speaking, linked to most discussions of PS3 vs 360. It is a standard feature on the PS3, and when comparing features/costs or even motivation behind why someone might purchase one over the other it becomes completely relevant to the topic.

Clearly?

Err, yeah a stop gap solution with double the sales of the 'real thing'

It's been out twice as long as well.

And it is a stop-gap solution not because of its sales, but because it still runs on DVD9's with no HDD, meaning all games designed for it have only 8 gig to work with.

I dont think you understood me, if the PS3 was the real thing, it should have blitzed a stop gap solution such as the 360 over christmas time am i right?
