could it be the day we have all been dreading and Matthew Smith makes his debut with Ben Hart out, i sure hope not but Smith was in Sturts best last week and even my dad who hates the bloke admitted he played well, i dont think he would simply because we would be a tad top heavy in our defence then but then again port have a top heavy forward line. I would actually rather see VB make his debut simply because i dont rate Smith but im just playing devils advocate.

Matthew Smith better not play

there is always the risk he'l do well, and then what would some our contributors on here do? ;)

Yeah, and Ben Marsh will be re-drafted as well. ;)

Could they be illegitimate brothers?

Frankly I'll be very surprised if he doesn't play.

Given Hart is out and the fact we need a bit more run from defense I think Van Berlo will be preferred to Tourney who may need a run in the SANFL.

Congrats to Vb on his selection and hope he does his best if he plays.

I have been given a few liftouts from the Advertiser called the Main Game. March 24 there was a little snippet about Troy Selwood making his debut 3 years after being listed by Brisbane, his twin brother Adam is on West Coasts list and has played 4-5 senior games , 3 in 2004 and 1-2 this year. I was going to compare the differences between the teams and show that player development is about where your team sits. This week we see Hawthorn introduce 3 more draftees , and I think thats more necessity than want. Brisbane as you can see waited 3 years for Troy, and they could as they were strong and could introduce 1 or 3 a year, while watching the rest develop. West Coast were in Adelaides spot 2 years ago and still they held off till Adams 2nd year and he only played 3 games.

I think Adelaide doesnt need to hit the panic button and slow gradual introductions are better than Hawthorns crash and burn style...also remembering Hawks had top 10 picks. But if VB debuts then I hope he takes it in his stride and goes forward...if he does all the boosters will tell us conservatives we told you so...and if he dies we will have a war :p

I'm very happy to see the count get a game. The rebuilding is back under way thank goodness.

Lets hope he manages to hold his spot for the rest of the year & that the selectors/supporters are ready to accept that he will most likely be inconsistant. I for one would rather see 20 inconsistant games from VB that 20 games fro Doughty or Skipworth.

With luck he will play well enough to encourage the selectors to give the other young guys some games.
