anybody else notice that Vegimite aint what it used to be...used to spread all smooth and smudge into the butter with ease...the last few jars ive tried it spreads into a glug and rips the bread...

whats going on!???

questions need to be answered on this!!!

The way around it is to take a dab of vegemite(with an 'e' not an 'i') on your knife and squeeze it against the side of the jar a few times. This should make it soft and malleable enough to not rip the bread.;)

local ive done that..believe me im a konnesuir of vegimite spreading..and the last year the stuff just aint what it used to be..its gluggy on the bread..and when you spread it it glugs into a ball or rips the bread or toast..

not too bad on salada's but bread fails baddly..never used to be like that

its just not football anymore i tell ya!!

not happy jan!!

I know this prbably isn't going to go down well especailly with FitzroyJamesDio but when I first went to Australia I was looking forwrd to trying your world famous yeast based spread & to be honest I was hugely dissappointed.I found it to be rather bland without any of the tangy flavour of English marmite.
Perhaps any Aussies who've been to England would care to share they're experiences of these 2 brands.

That's not a huge surprise. Most people form overseas do dislike the stuff.
My brother chats to someone who lives in America and he sent over some vegemite to her. She hated the stuff! In return, she sent over some instant grits! And we hate the stuff!

It really is natural. It is hard to adjust to different countries food and in some cases (e.g Darky's) - your own!

Shame Shame Shame Dipper...

Vege wins any yeast extract pepsi cola challenge.

Marmite???? I am reliably informed by my Kiwi mates that NZ marmite is infinitely superior to the pommy stuff.

A slight digression...anyone who has tried non aussie Milo in cold milk will know it don't froth properly. Milo here comes from Kenya or Jamaica, and it aint as good as Aussie stuff either.

My grandmother used to make vegemite broth. It was really nice. I wish I could remember how she made it. I've tried to make it and it just tastes disgusting.

Havent noticed it all FJD and from the sounds of things im like yourself in that im a deadset VEGEMITE junkie. Been on the stuff since i was three weeks old. Yea, you read it right, 3 weeks!!

God i love that stuff.

Agree 100% on this one FJD. I eat vegemite on bread rolls every lunch time and lately it's a fuking disaster. I'm also pretty sure there's a bread conspiracy too as the rolls now rip to pieces just by cutting them.
Have you noticed that this means using more vegemite to get the same spread? Another conspiracy!?!?!?

Best topic ever!! :D

Make Vegemite Saladas in the Morning, take them to Work for Lunch and the Vegemite is running out of them like Soy Sauce!  :(

Back in my bachelor days I'd sometimes run out of food and money ... completely.

I'd be forced to lick vegemite off a spoon for breakfast, lunch and tea.

Well ... no-one was forcing me ... it tasted great!

Caused little blisters on the tongue after a while though ...

(Disclaimer : I'd also lick salt out of my palm, and sip vinegar. Thank God I've now got food in the cupboards!)

Vege la Vivemite!

marmite - errrr yhick...cat **** in a jar!

vegimite definately is an aquired taste probably just as bad as cat **** for new users...

getting back to the topic at hand..i think the glug could well be a conspiracy..its fine when you first buy it but the spread dont last like it used to..makes ya want to chuck it out and get a new jar ..and i put the lid back on mine..and refrigirate...cos im a good lil vegimite!

i think letters of complaint should be sent to kraft australia..and maybe my love naomi robson and today tonight can help us get to the bottom of this..
