To be fair to him, Fyfe's been handballing people into trouble for 4+ years now.
Handballing to ruckmen's feet, handballing over link up teammates heads, handballing to spots that get his teammates poleaxed rather than to advantage.
This is a vent thread, so while it's the right place for that type of post, I'll also vent by saying I don't really understand the Fyfe criticism that I often see in our Freo forum.
Fyfe has constantly been one of, if not our best player for score involvements and score launches for many years. I fail to see how that statistic can be supported by the theory that Fyfe handballs people into trouble.
For example, Fyfe's score involvements and score launch averages have been better than Mundy for each of the last 5 years.
Even this season, which is far from one of his best, only Brayshaw and Brodie (both with much higher disposal averages) have slightly better score involvement/launch averages.
It is something that I still marvel at how Fyfe can so often cleanly clear the ball from congestion to an outside player which leads to an entry forward.
Maybe Fyfe attempts the more attacking riskier option or maybe he is generally under pressure contesting which leads to more clangers. Maybe I am just not noticing those as often as others do in here?
He certainly has averaged about 1 and half more clangers a game than Mundy (but then Fyfe has also averaged a few more disposals over the last 5 years).
Anyways, just saying, even when Fyfe is having an ordinary season (by his standards) he is generally still producing strong scoring opportunities for Freo ... which I'm not sure people notice as much as I do. (NB: I have a habit of reviewing goals and their origins in games, both for and against, and for that matter, I rarely see a poor Fyfe turnover/handball resulting in an opposition goal, but often see Fyfe involved in our goals).
