I doubt many Parents would hold there Kids because of that. It's more that Parents Miss there Kids when they are not Home

Storm in a teacup - I remember there was a conversation a while back about players from the actual Collingwood area, and it was concluded that there hasn't been a Collingwood player who actually grew up in Collingwood/Abbotsford in decades.

There's just not enough kids in that area for it to be a valuable recruiting ground.

Yes and no - Gippsland is a fruitful recruiting area in general, but in terms of alternate pathway, Indigenous and multicultural youngsters? I'm not so sure that it's the exceptional boon that it's been painted as.

We'll wait and see, but I'm happy to be given a more urban population, where not only is the immigrant population bigger, but the chances of a kid participating in a sport other than footy, meaning that they're from an alternate pathway is also higher.

and That what Zone we have?

Goldstein would been a Good Example how it could Work. He played Basketball to he was 16 or 17 then Changed to Footy. IF he fitted the Multicultural requirements he could of been in our Academy - That Correct?

If one or both of Goldstein's parents was born overseas, and we signed him while he was still playing basketball, then that would be exactly correct.

Zac Clarke is an example that I know definitely would have fit under the scheme, as his father is African-American, and Zac was playing basketball right up until he was 17, with no involvement in competitive footy until then.

That be the Type be most looked at. The Kids who Play Basketball - They be the Ones that we most likely look for.

Though be looking at Other Sports but best Chance be the Basketball Court

I think soccer could be ripe for the picking too. Part of the real encouragement for kids getting involved in soccer is the young age at which they can get looked at for academies and development programs with a real track towards a professional team.

I don't think young kids give a shit about academies or development programs, they just want to run around and score goals. In my experience most of them choose Soccer over Footy because they're scared of getting hurt in footy. It's a stigma we need to change.

I don't think soccer really has many transferable skills to AFL like other sports do. At least in basketball you gain the spatial awareness and elite ability in tight contested areas, plus jump balls are pretty much the same as an AFL ruck set up.

Ideally we need to go out to areas with high immigrate populations and introduce their kids to footy, that's the main aim of these academies.

Well we got Keeffe from Soccer but I think the Money that is in Soccer might be tad harder to get them to leave

Not so sure ...

... If a kid has one or both parents born overseas, then it follows that they tend to be a bit more world aware. And soccer is the world game. It offers bigger dreams with bigger heros who earn more money and travel the world and play in world competitions.

That's just my own observation though. Getting 2nd generation Aussie kids in the playground to give up playing soccer and take AFL seriously is a tough gig.

Especially when in soccer the only thing they look for is ability. In footy they look for the archetypal, 6"3-6"7foot all round super athlete .. That alone will limit the future talent pools...

You can see it when we rate junior talent, height is a major factor, whereas in soccer you just need to be very good at the game and reasonably fit.

I honestly think that's even a stretch. Maybe 1 or 2 recruited every year, most likely to the rookie list, with 1 in every 5 years actually any good.

The goal of the program is to bring young talent into the game, not actually to provide us with talent - I think you're probably about right with those estimates.
