B&W Hearts,
Terry Wallace and Rocket Eade got into the debate re video decisions on contentious goal and boundary calls.
Us Collingwood supporters would probably rejoice in the news although a little too late.
As someone who does those replays on the footy and has also been basicly the 3rd umpire on international cricket (from a replay perspective) I know how easy and how quickly they can be there.
I also on cricket and rugby union have time to know exactly where the bails were dislodged or ball grounded before the 3rd ump is ready.
The problem I see is the optical illusion that can be generated by the positioning of the cameras at the top of the goal posts. LIKE THE ANTHONY ROCCA GOAL !!!
I screamed blue murder from the tape truck that GF day almost breaking down that with the amount of money spent to make Football the number 1 sport in the country how could a GF be decided by umpire error??
Once I calmed down and the game was long over I watched it over and over again from every possible angle ( 10 had 36 cams on the 02 GF) and amazingly once the emotion subsided had to settle for the fact that it was a behind.
Everything that day from the reverse angle replay to the live shot off the boot said goal and everyone thought GOAL so we played back again and again the replay that made it look like a goal (given the balance of the match at the time) its only when you freeze and track it frame by frame do you see the ball go behind the post.
Do we have time for that in the game ? Will networks pay for super slo cameras behind the goals at ground level and in the stands ? Do we want players standin around staring at a screen? Do us fans wanna be staring at the screen?
We have all seen on occasion how the video does not help in cricket and rugby so do we bother??
