It seems Virgin's "free" broadband / unlimite landline calls approach is having the desired effect on Telstra (ie. they are shitting themselves about losing home phone and internet share).
I have Home Line Ultimate as my girlfriend lives interstate (she's a Crows supporter...for now!) and I mainly work from home and all landline calls for $90 is better than any alternative.
A Telstra rep phoned me up throwing broadband cable at me. I am currently with aaNet ADSL and this building can only get satellite Foxtel (ie. no cable). I am however moving soon enough.
The offer for the Home Line Ultimate Plan was:
$109 per month
Cable - 30 MB/second (fully installed and connected if available in area)
25 Gigs then shaped (presuming they still count up and downloads)
Now I hate Telstra. I had BigPond cable at my last place and the dropouts were irritaing relative aaNet. But it was quick, 25 Gigs for my usage is heaps and $19.00 for 30 meg per second internet is far better than my $50 for my aaNet connection, or whoever else may provide an ADSL2 connection (like TPG).
I ain't making any decisions till I move in a few months or so, but it's nice to see some hard competition that may actually benefit us for a change!
