What's this game like ... is it worth my $40? I'm after a decent tennis game on PS2 but not sure what to look for. The Adidas thingy one on XBox is good, not available on PS2 though ...

I have Namco's Smash Tennis - Pro Tournament, it is a pretty good game.

Tennis is hard to judge, it depends on what you want in a game. Namco's is fairly challenging.

The Virtua series in soccer & golf was ok, I reckon it's worth the risk at $40.

I can't see anyone being a Tennis junkie & wanting every title so you do have to be careful.

It's a pretty good game, although can get rather tedious after a while on the tour.

I found it easy to win in the first few rounds of a tournament, but impossible to beat the top players.

OK thanks. Are there many options available such as create your own player, train them etc?

I ve got Namco's Smash Tennis - Pro Tournament and i dont really think it is that good. At the start it is so easy the other player cant even win a point but when you get to round 3 or 4 there is no way to win, i hate it and i paid $40!

It's good but pretty easy and getting a little outdated. Best to play against someone else.

You get to the stage on the tour when only one tournament a year can improve your ranking which is gay.

Basically you create two players (male and female), train them up and play tournaments (singles, doubles, mixed) you can buy doubles partners, better equipment, extra courts etc from a shop.

It has a short shelf life but probably worth $40. You could probably find it in an Intencity (do they still have those?) and a have a quick bash (you can only play games) and see if you like it. I know there is one in crown but that doesn't exactly help...

Yep.

You create both a male and a female player, and go on the tour as both.

There are many training routines which improve your ability, and you can also use your cash to buy new gear, be it rackets, clothes or shoes.

It's quite detailed, although after a while it gets monotonous. Still worth a try for $40.

I've just completed it myself a week or so ago.

It's plays very well but as people have said it is a bit monotonous, in the end the training becomes the main thing, I just ended up training my people until they were virtually perfect & the matches became almost a sideshow.

Once you're fully trained the games weren't too challenging, beat the last 2 rounds first time I played them.

As well it's very arcady, you don't play best of 3 or 5 sets, in the lesses tournies sometimes it's first to 2 games, & for the big ones it's one full set.

I would have prefered the drama of proper matches.

Maybe Smash Court is a bit more of a proper sim.

The thing that really frustrated me in the play was how you can't lob the CPU from the back of the court even if he's right on the net.
