I've picked up a cheap new desktop and need to know what, if any, is the best free virus protection available on the internet?

In the past, I've normally just dropped $30/year for the Norton updates, but don't want that expense when I'll probably only have this computer for a few more months.

Any ideas or links for downloads?

Cheers, Ghost.

You cant go past the free version of AVG.

A fantastic virus checker. The free version doesn't have all the bells and whistles but it checks and cleans viruses. Doesn't need to do any more in my books

I agree, however since their last major update this is really ********ing me off with the constant updates every 2 days.

I also use AVG free, I find it hassel free and very effective !!!! I also run Ccleaner, and both work well.

I have used Norton and McAfee over the past 5 years and continually been disappointed with how much resource hogs they are.
I d/l AVG a few months ago and its been great!

I'm running AVG Free and Avast and am finding them both really good.

jojo, do you have a link for this ccleaner that you speak of?

Also, I still have Nortons loaded on my PC. D'ya reckon I should pull the pin and uninstall it? It slows the computer down something shocking.

I have it set to update early in the morning when the computer generally isn't on. It'll complain after about two or three weeks that the virus db is getting out-of-date, in which case I'll just do an update then.

2nd time today you've told me something i should have known.

Just noticed the scheduler option.

Thanks again.

Hawkeye uninstall Nortons, as its good for bugger all, just stick with AVG and the site for ccleaner is www.ccleaner.com and download the free version, I run it everyday as it only takes a few seconds ;)

Thanks jojo. So, do you think with AVG Free, Avast and this ccleaner I'll be A-OK? Will I still have to install the anti-spy and anti popup stuff as well?

Hawkeye, I'm not a full bottle on all this, but it seems as though Avast is also an anti-virus, which you shouldnt need if running AVG - free and CCleaner. I also run ad-aware (free) but only run it about once a week and my PC runs well :D

Have you paid for a membership to BigFooty? You can't have an avatar if you haven't. That might be the problem.

First you have to be a paid up member.

Then go to 'My Big Footy' right next to FAQ under
bigfooty.gif
image. Click on 'My Big Footy' then look for 'edit avatar' under settings and option.

Click on 'edit avatar'

Find a pik you want to be your avatar from your computer copy the location to the line below 'Upload an Avatar From Your Computer'

Then click on 'reset fields' And you avatar should appear.

If you geta message that says you need to resize your avatar try ezthumbs. This a very good freeware program once you get the hang of it. It can resize any image.

Ok Ive just checked out Subscribe and it's 9.99US and to be paid using paypal, hmmmmm now I'm confused, is this the only way to be a paid member?
