Although work on the site has slowed due to Melbourne’s extreme heat, the project is running smoothly and ahead of schedule.

The exciting redevelopment project will make Visy Park a landmark sport and community precinct at Princes Park.
The $18million redevelopment will create a multi-faceted super venue for sport, community and the environment.

Days lost for "inclement weather" be it heat, wind or rain are always factored into time scheduling and budgets on such property developments.
Any days lost this week would not have been unexpected or unfactored into completion schedules

Government chips in for Blues

THE Federal Government will invest $4.5 million into the Visy Park redevelopment, Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard announced yesterday.

Gillard, who revealed the contribution at the Carlton president's function before the clash with Melbourne, said part of the facilities would be named after the late Don Chipp, a federal politician and environmental campaigner who was a great Blues supporter.

''We're proud to be able to support with this investment at the football ground facilities where school children will be able to come to the ground. They will be able to do programs, learning about envir-onmental values, about water saving, about climate change, about environmental design,'' she said.

If the feasibility study done by the AFL concludes that Princes Park is a viable 3rd metro ground the old girl will get a whole lot more spent on her than that.
I've got a gut feeling our ground will become the third metro ground. The ironic part to it is all because of Ian Collins reluctance to deal with the AFL and individual clubs on their tenancy contractual arrangements. The irony is amusing really, keep being pig headed please Ian and you may finally do us some good for the first time in 10 yrs.

Nice of the Federal Government to kick in $4.5 million for the Visy Park upgrade. And all we have to do is name a part of it after Don Chipp. If it's still on track, then we are only a couple of months away from completion. Will be great to see the finsihed facilities.

I think it's the $4.5 million that was announced when we first heard of the funding of the development by Carlton and the State and Federal governments.

I doubt they've given us any more funds.

I'm guessing that this is just an announcement that is pissing in our pockets to publicise the naming of a room after Don Chipp.

They should name a room after Alpha's juice or MBIB's muffins.

What did Juddy say? Man I'm conflicted, 1 this really doesn't help the national debt, but on the other hand it's going to the Blues!

Not even a drop in the ocean.
Still, pretty happy that the money is heading our way.

That is not EVEN poo change for the Government. Besides adding infrastructure to the city of Melbourne whilst boosting employment and probably supply is hardly a bad thing.

Guided Tour of Visy Park Redevelopment : Photo Gallery

As the much-anticipated completion of the Visy Park redevelopment draws closer, here's the latest sneak preview of the $18million sport and community precinct soon to accommodate the Carlton Football Club's players and administration staff.

Destined to catapult Carlton to the forefront as a sport/community hub, the redevelopment delivers a multi-faceted 21st century super venue in keeping with world standards.

Located at the western end of the ground where the Heatley and Harris Stands once stood, the elite facility is expected to be available for team members' use in early January.

General Manager Operations Martin Shannon, who accompanied members of Carlton's coaching and general administration staff on a guided tour of the redevelopment this week, confirmed that "completion date is the second week of December".

"I'm happy with the way it's gone," Shannon said. "It's on budget and on time, it's been relatively streamlined and the builder, John Lyng's group, has done a fantastic job and we've had a tremendous amount of co-operation from the State and Federal Governments, the City of Melbourne and the AFL. These are partnerships we could not have done without

"We did have some issues in the beginning in relation to soil excavation. There were some latent conditions under the stands that we weren't aware of until the stands came down, but once we addressed those we were on target."

Shannon is in no doubt that the redevelopment promises "the best facilities in Australia at the current moment for our playing group and our administration staff, and we would like to think that it would compete with anything international".

"This redevelopment will bring the players, coaches and administration all together given that they've been quite isolated for a fair period of time, but more than that, it will provide everyone at the club with a great deal of happiness in sharing a facility of which players and administration staff, together with members and supporters when they come to visit, can all be proud," Shannon said.

Planning for the redevelopment has focused on a range of elements to be incorporated into the new building, including high performance training, medical and rehabilitation areas, office facilities, community facilities and Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD) initiatives.

Carlton supporters can support this exciting new development through the 2009 Carlton raffle. Each ticket in the raffle is $200 and the grand prize is a Hyundai i30 valued at $30,000.

Funds raised through this campaign will assist the redevelopment of the facilities at Visy Park. This will include the purchase of special equipment and cutting edge technologies that will greatly assist the players and coaches of the club.

have a look through the gallery, it's pretty much done, just gotta get cracking on the inside
