I thought he looked to be really promising.

Does anyone know what is really wrong with him? Is he likely to play again given the extended period on the injury list?

We can ill afford to lose his talent.

hiya saior, been a while since we have seen you around these parts...

viv has broken his navicular in his foot twice now... its the same injury that ended matt egans career at geelong, and also kept james hird out of the game for 2 years... it is a notoriously tricky injury to manage, and the reports are that viv re-broke it the moment he tried to ramp his training up... its a tragedy, as he is a real talent.. however im not sure he will ever pull on a jumper in anger now... hopefully im wrong

I lay the blame fairly & squarely on harves.
Clearly harves pushed this kid when he needed the exact opposite, clearly Lyon has said, viv have the year off and we'll start looking at you next pre-season.

Harves look & learn how Lyon is handling injured players now.

Peel FC also placed Michie out on the field when he had injured his foot during a game last season. This could only have aggravated it more.

FYI

He relapsed with his foot under Lyon over the preseason.

Not sure if cerial.

I read that this kind of injury can be notoriously hard to diagnose.
I remember when michie reported having a hot-spot but harves continued on playing him.Right there harves should've said that's it four months rest for you viv.

Actually, Michie reported it to be sore, Harves sent him for scans, the scans didn't show any hot spot at all, so he was played the next week when it broke.

Harsh to imaginge but it would not completely surprise me if he was delisted at the end of year. He'll probably be rookie listed.

Exactly what I read about this injury, difficult to detect the fracture.
Did harves get a second opinion, who knows?
You hope freo would've.

Pretty much my thoughts. Delisted and given a charity spot on the rookie list a la Ruffles.

Need to look after this kid, with all the shite he's been through, he will be determined like no other and determination is the key no matter what the talent.
Not sure why, but I have always had a really good feeling about him, he could be the last piece of a really good midfield.
Look after him Freo!

the problem is you can't give someone a spell for 4 months because their foot is sore.

Having said that, the reoccurance was unfortunate and i'm wondering if his rehab or something else was compromised.

The other thing is it could simply be a genetic issue and it will continue to happen in which case he'll need be to delisted because his body isn't up to it (aka: ruffles)

My prediction is that Michie will replace Roberts as the very talented but always injured rookie. Not that I'm giving up on Roberts, on talent alone he'd be ahead of quite a few of our senior listed players. But it always helps if you can make it out on the ground every now and then.

We obviously like Viv, and Ross liked him over at St Kilda. So hopefully he can show something in the back half of the season. I'm still expecting big things from him.

That unfortunately did not work out either. Some players are just cursed when it comes to injuries and are never right over their career. Brock O Brian, Ruffles Lee Walker from WAY back had 4 knee recos and we never got to see any of their best.

Hope that I am wrong! Best of luck in the recovery Michie!

That would have to be one of the hardest things to get over, knowing that injuries ruined your AFL dream. I hate bloody injuries.

Having said that the fat lady isn't singing yet.

I've read that some people see viv as an outside mid and others view him as a inside mid.How does viv sit with you Chris?

Both?

From what I can remember of his U18 performances, he did play in the middle and outside on a wing. Hard to know what we really had planned for him, considering how little football he has played. But we could have gone either way with him - a Dal Santo like inside midfielder or a Ryan Houlihan like midfielder/forward. Either way, it would be a high level of skill and perhaps a lack of outwards aggression.

Ideally, he would have been a handy replacement for Mundy/Barlow while they were out.
