I remember one time we won 3 in a row under swooper gee we got maggotted doing the pubs after the win and singing the song!!!!!

I was just wondering what our old timers feel about wallace/swooper comparisons. TW seems to be getting the best out of the boys as did swooper, gets them really focused on a simple but effective game plan...the game has evolved from swoopers time and tw is a more skills orienatated and strategic coach....bit i just think we have a nice feeling that we can take on teams now that we have a FAIR DINKHUM COACH>.......thoughts?

I see a vague comparison but I dont think it's a similarity in coaches.

Our guys are over being labelled as duds and our younger dudes have taken it upon themselves to make the change.
Terrys' addition as coach gave this natural progression the momentum it needed.

I dont think Northey was a good coach as such but rather one who was able to instill vibe and comradery into the group.

It's a little different to Terrys position of having walked into a reputedly doomed club and having to work to a 5 year plan.

Norhtey had players such as Campbell,Knights,Brodderick,Maxfield, etc and even Daffy to an extent, in their prime,
Collectively a pretty good live act on their day.

While Tuck,Coughlan,Hyde,Deledio,Tambling... may qualify for the next tie of these type of players I think they can aspire to a little more.

Terry has also brought a professionalism to punt road that was so badly missing since crossing into the modern era.

One thing Im hoping Terry brings BACK to the club is the intimidation factor, something Northey knew zip about.

At this stage Terry rates a 9 over Northeys 7.

I don`t think the most telling stat there is the wins but the strings of losses from 2002-2004 .

I guess you could draw a comparison with swooper in the fact that he was able to extract every ounce of blood and sweat out of the boys but it is no secret that Northey wasn`t a tactical genius.

All i want to see now , and i rate this as being just as important , if not more so , than our wins , is when we do suffer a loss , that it is not in our traditional way of waving the white flag , seeing runs of 6 - 8- 10 un-answered goals being kicked against us . Watching us going down without a fight . Seeing these losses turn into strings of 8 - 10 - 12 .

That has been the most sickening thing from the last 3 seasons .

" HONOURABLE " is the word i want to see behind any loss we incur from this point forth . That is when i will say that we are making real progress .

(Hypothetical) , if we were to go down to the saints this week , and it was only by 3 or 4 goals but the game as a good 4 quarter competative scrap , that were always a chance in , then i reckon at this stage of our development i would be happier with that than some of our wins this season .

haha good point

The only thing Northey and Wallace have in common is that they were able to get the best out of an average list of players, both at the Demons and the Dogs.

Thats good enough to get you into finals if everything goes well, but not good enough to win you grannies, which neither of them did.

Wallace will no doubt prove to be the better coach for RFC. The only thing that worries me about him is whether he'll see out the 5 years, or whether he'll end up having 2 things in common with Northey. Dont put it past Wallace to ask for a pay rise in 3 years, and dont put it past Miller to think about bringing Pagan over either.

full marks for the first stupid post of the week...pagan and miller are about as tight as Bush/Bin Laden

Id be looking elsewhere for off beam long range forecasts

So what's your point pinhead? That he's only interested in coaches he gets along socially with?
