Im sure this post has been done before, but i wasnt around so it doesnt count. Does anyone else wish we never lost him. He was my favourite player along with Hird. How would things have been different if we kept him. It was great having two magical players with him and Hird together. Perhaps if held on to him, we could have won in 99 and 01. Who did we get for him?

Also does anyone else think giving up Hardwick was a bad move on Essendons part? I thought he was dud up until 99/2000/01 when our defence was one of the best in the league. (Never forget this one match perhaps in 97 when we got pumped by Adelaide by about 82 points, he played on from a kick in and kicked it straight down the throat of a forward) Anyway... It was like as soon as we lost him, we lost our hardness and stability in the backline. I guess losing Barnard and Dean Wallis, Barry Young probably added to that too though.

Also whatever happened to that player who played during 2000 as a fill in guy but killed it every game he played. I think it may have been Robran or something like that. He was a tall defender.

Wanganeen is probably in the top 5 I've seen at Essendon. If you slot him in our 2000 side instead of someone like Moorcroft it takes on another whole dimension. But that's the way it goes and he probably never reached the level of brilliance he did in 1993 until the last two seasons.

Hardwick going was gut-renching at the time. He was everything that was Essendon Football Club. But at the end of the day Dimma is now retired and Andrew Welsh was close to best on ground on Friday night, has 10 years ahead of him and is already a respected leader at the club. Even without Joel Reynolds firing a shot, we are ahead in that trade from an Essendon point of view.

Jonathan Robran, ex-Hawk. One thing that often gets looked over when people mention the players we lost due to salary cap was the depth players we also lost. I'm pretty sure he went back to Adelaide and played in the SANFL and is now retired. One of the reasons we were so good in 2000 was because when we did have injuries, we had very capable players to come into the side. Prior, Robran, Denham, Bolton, McVeigh, Fraser etc were all very handy fringe players that couldn't crack it in our best 22.

He's the only player that i still liked as much after he left the club. I was going nuts every time he got near it in the GF last year.

Yeah okay..... the guys sh*t

The guy was a star , how can you justify your comment

His won a Michael Tuck medal

Won a Brownlow from a back freakin pocket being the size he is

Was magical in Essendons 93 season team

Stuggled a bit early on at Port but still had his magical moment. His been real good the last few seasons.

Singlehandedly won Port the prelim final and turned the game in Ports favor in last years grand final.

Superstar

Walked out on Essendon , all `96 he kept saying " will negotiate at the end of the season" 1996 Prelim in Sydney , pipped, he flew home, packed his bags and bolted to S.A. Interesting negotiating practices.
Champion footballer , saw every game he played for Essendon, reckless , knew no fear. Does anyone remember his first game for Essendon ? Night game v c******, didn`t do much, kicked the winning goal with a banana , unbelievable goal.
There are ways to leave a football club, he did it the wrong way.
