It may be the nuff nuffs.... but who was the best player in 1966? Bob Skilton.... who was the best player in 1932? Hayden Bunton. Who's to argue with me? anecdotal evidence is slipping away fast, the only lasting evidence is the winner of the medal.

It will be no different in 50 years time, the best player in 2012 was Jobe Watson. Franklin who? Gary who? haha Gary Who.. all together now.

better wait 50 years and ask again....

Those guys'll still be the B&F winners in the premiership side.

No thread shall escape me beating this drum.

Hmm i can see i'm figthing a losing battle here... even the Gary Who reference didnt soften the stance!

Look i agree with you anyway, maybe it is the nuff nuffs that believe the medalist is the best player in the comp.. but the fact of the matter is the world is 95% nuff nuffs and majority rules.

look at them all out there.. lining up for 3 days for a phone with the headphone jack in a different spot... we are surrounded by them.

Moreso the second, but both, kinda.

- That the Brownlow = the best player
- That Watson is better than Franklin

Nuff nuffs believe the former, nobody should believe the latter.

Yeah not totally tied to the idea that the Brownlow medallist is the games best player.

Certainly if there are KPIs to be met, that's certainly a strong indicator.

For me, his Brownlow win is a great big FU to a few on this forum; and I am delighting in finding and squeezing those said few at the moment.

BUT I am of the belief that Jobe is the games best current player. And in fairness to me, I'm not exactly johnny come lately on this one - the reason I've seen so many anti-Watson posts is because I have been flying the flag for him as either the games best player, or second only to Ablett for some time now.

As for Franklin, let me be perfectly clear so that there is no confusion; not only is Watson a better player than Franklin, he has been so for several years.

Whilst I haven't gone through the exercise, if I were to rank players in the league, I believe Franklin would slide in at the 8-10 mark.

moreover...

i wouldnt call Gary O'Donnell within miles of the leagues best player.. he was b'n'f in the premiership side in 93... same goes for Fletch in 2000. The b'n'f isnt the greatest guide either, they can be inhouse favorites sometimes.

Best player in the best side.

Jobe is irrelevant this year for all intents and purposes. Sam Mitchell and Josh Kennedy aint.

No way, I bet Jobe would trade his Charlie for three premiership medals. I don't think Tim would be trading his '84, '85 and '93 medals for anything.

Golly. I would have Franklin and Ablett at the top between them. In normal circumstances I wouldn't have a midfielder at all on Franklin's level, but I've never seen a midfielder live as good as Ablett. I've always thought we stood a chance of luck against any player on our day (even Franklin), but I've never felt we could get anywhere near Ablett Jnr. I've not seen a player with such turn of speed, strength, skill and smarts tear us apart EVERY TIME the way he has.

Watson, while a top 5-10 player in the league, is not in the same league as these two players, IMO.

But then, nobody is, really.

corey enright anyone?

Didn't see Tim, but last night changes nothing.

He's no different than he was at 7pm last night
You need to go back and watch some full games of Tim in his prime, he was the prototype for the modern day footballer.....Incredible pace always made the right decision when he had the ball, and a brilliant kick, slotted many a goal from the boundary line at Windy hill........I am blessed to have seen every game they have both played.....Not really worried about who is better....Both legends at EFC already.... I hope like hell Jobe can Surpass Timmy in flags, I bet Timmy does as well.....If JD is better than TD there is a flag on the way, real soon!!!!!

For me....Timmy, Madden, Hird, Jobe, Neale Daniher,(sob sob, what could have been), Lloyd,Fletcher,Terry Daniher, Wanganeen, Long and Baker are the top ten 10 have seen at EFC....
Damn that's 11...anyone wanna put their hands up to be sub?
Thinking of Sub, In his early days, I can not remember Timmy being interchanged ever, played a full game week in week out....
