we are the straw men meaning we need a brain just like the straw man needs a brain in the wizard of oz. How many times can u go streaming towards 50 and kick it to richo who has 3,4,5 players on him when we clearly have runners running pass for a simple handball? Even when we were behind in the last quarter we could have easily have won but our teams stupidity going foward is just not good enough. The decision making especially with no pressure is shocking and we need to drastically improve on that otherwise we will struggle immensly once again this year.

Never have true'er words rang in my ears. We really need to look at this and do something about it quick smart.

On a positive note, it has been obvious in the first two games that we have straightened up a lot going forward. Instead of kicking to Richo wide on the flanks as in previous years, we are now kicking to Richo in the corridor. That has been an obvious improvement in our game, even though the Roos covered it off last week.

The other thing that has been obvious, especially in the Carlton game, is that the reason we go to Richo all the time is because he gives full blooded leads all the time, and if he isn't honoured the first time he leads a second time and a third time. Most of our other forwards give one lead if we are lucky. The problem isn't Richo demanding the ball. The problem is the other forwards not demanding it. Sarge started to lead harder against the roos and was rewarded with 3 goals.

I take R-D's point on the decision making though. Its something that needs some work.

I agree they look a lot straighter and better than previous years. Obviously looking for Richo only isn't ideal, but i'd rather see them kicking it long to a contest than stuffing arund with in the middle, handballs to players under pressure etc and then turning it over. Richo's always gonna put up a contest, it's up to the crumbers (or lack thereof, discussed at length elsewhere) to get in there and win the ball and apply some forward pressure, and other forwards to provide other options!

That being said, TW would be working on lessening the reliance on Richo, evidenced by his time on the pine late on Sunday. We just need to get blokes on the park with footy brains and get some more experience into them. It'll take time.

not saying we shouldnt go long and direct i love that but not wen his surrounded by so many players i mean 1-1 he will win 8/10 contests but 3,4,5-1 its extremely difficult to do much. i agree we have straightend up all we need to do though is be smarter wen going foward and yea i agree with ya our other forwards need to provide better options not just 1 lead and give up

Its time for the Tiges to scrap, to fight and to die on the field. Leave nothing behind in any game. Bad luck if we kill ourselves. Sides really will sit up and take notice and this will swing some games our way. Run, tackle, shepherd, niggle, head over the ball, 2nd, 3rd, 4th efforts....all that stuff!!! The other side will start to hesitate just a little bit. This is it, this is the season that will tell us where we're at as a club. It has to be wins on the board or god help us in the long run. I love this club lads and ladies and I'll stick with em but please, PLEASE, stand up and be counted. The jumper is sacred, its a privelege. Play for it!!!!!!

Should be tattooed on their foreheads.

Im 24 yrs of age and have learnt to expect the worst and hope for the best with the Tigers. But I believe things are on the improve:

In days gone by with the likes of Daffy,Stafford, Kellaway, Gasper and the like we were regularly beaten by 40+ on regular occassions. All these players were experience and and strong bodies to contest.

From what I saw on Sunday against Nth is we lost by 41 points with a team of youth... players with natural ability, Delidio, Thursty, Newman, Tambo, Jackson etc... I would prefer to loose in this manner. The signs are there that within the next 18mnths these players will become stronger over the ball and develop their mental strength to compete. You will find that we will start being a team that can bully the older and inexperienced teams of their legs. Teams that have had the wood over us in the last decade. Such as Syd, Ade, Port, Melb, Nth, Freo.

Unfortunatly we have had a lot of dead wood to get ride off, players that had strength to compete but lacked skills. We just need the strength of our youth to reach the same level as their skills. I guarantee you will see a quick improvement in the coming 18mnths!!

i said it last week and ill say it again this week, we are brainless have no clue wat to do with the ball and this week we went handball crazy like a crazy old woman throwing cats at u. absolute discracesful abismall performance and until we get some brains into our team we are going nowhere. i know we need to be postive but we are woeful and something has to be done

You make a lot of good points. The bit in bold struck me because he was rewarded with 3 goals for his hard work, but also "rewarded" by then being shuffled back to defence ...up, back, up back ... time to settle on a position for shulz and let him flourish or flounder once and for all.
