With both Ottens and Marsh gone, we still need a back-up ruckman. If Simmonds or Stafford get injured or suspended we surely can't rely on Ray Hall.

I heard we spoke to McKee but surely there are better options out there. Who else would be available??

I agree. There will be ruckman scattered right throughout the draft. I would be much more willing to get a gun midfielder and get an OK ruckman from teh VFL

Ideally we get a young ruckmen with an early pick (preferably Wood - a Richmond supporter, or Messen) and let them develop for a few seasons and just get a back-up on base salary to fill the void for a couple of years.

We'll definitely draft one, but I think we'll miss out on one of the top 3 ruck options. We don't have the space on the list to get an additional one in the PSD (there was some talk of Steve McKee possibly training with the team). We're going to have to make do with Stafford, Simmonds and Hall for the bulk of the work and maybe whoever we draft playing if we get some injury/suspension problems.

It seems to be the general view that Wood, Messen and Deluca are the three best ruckmen. Who with picks before us would be looking at ruckmen, assuming Deledio, Tambling, Griffen, Franklin and Roughead go in the top 5.

Pick 6 - WB - possibly
Pick 7 - Haw - Probable they will take a ruckmen Wood? if the Bulldogs dont pick one
Pick 8 - Adel - If Wood is gone most probably will take Monfries
Pick 9 - Carl - Deluca?
Pick 10 - Coll - Would think a midfielder.
Pick 11 - PA - Possibly a ruck? Primus, Brogan, Lade and Ackland. Do the take a young ruckmen or go with a midfielder?
Pick 12 - Rich - If Port dont pick a ruckmen we are left with option of Messen, or wait until pick 16 or 20 and hope he still around or take someone like Maric if Messen is gone.

There is so many rucks, you can pick one and just develop them. You need an athletic ruckman, not a big salami like wood who is crap around the ground

I think Hawthorn traded up the draft because they want Cameron Wood and wanted to get above Adelaide. I think we were keen to get an extra top-10 pick for the same reason.

Carlton will take Fabian DeLuca at 9.

Between our pick 12 and pick 16 the 3 picks (Melbourne x 2 and Essendon) are unlikely to want a ruckman. Melbourne brought in Paul Johnson as their 3rd stringer and the Bombers still have 4 options on their list.

Between pick 16 and pick 20, Port and Brisbane are unlikely to want a ruckman but the Saints probably will.

So I would guess we will take Meesan at 16 (not 12) and there might be a temptation to gamble on what the Saints do and see if we can get Meesan at 20. I'd do that knowing that we could still get Foster or Maric at 20 if the Saints gazzump us.

Meesan is physically mature and will be able to be the 3rd stringer behind Simmonds and Stafford next year. We can then look at a guy for the rookie list to give us depth.

id go with maric at 20.we will use Simmonds + stafford with Hall and Maric as backup,s.
Maric can go fwd as well which is a bonus.
im more interested in picks 12+16.
im hoping it will go like this.
#12-Eckerman.i was impressed with him in the u/18 champs.reminds me of a Wangerneen.
if Eckerman is gone id go for Bates.

#16-Bates.[pending on Eckerman].liked his game in the GF when he went into the midfeild.
if bates is gone then Lewis.if Lewis isnt available then perhaps a Sharp or Weavers smokie in Ryan Jackson.

I think that we should take Wood because out of Roughead Franklin and Wood he is the only victorian there. So Stafford Wood Simmonds and possible Hall should be plenty enough rucks to choose from and utilise on our way to the premiship cup.

I think we're ok for back pocket types and wingmen, it's KPPs, ruckmen and on-ballers where we really need help.

Not if we have to compete against the likes of Brissy,Port etc.

Thats the problem,we have been filling these positions with "type" or "utility" players not specialists.

Where are all the naturals ?????
