NO NOT MARK WEBBER!!!!! RUTH
Senator denies driving charge
November 22, 2004
FEDERAL Labor Senator Ruth Webber will face trial on charges of misleading police and driving while suspended after pleading not guilty in a West Australian court today.
Senator Webber made a brief appearance in Joondalup Court of Petty Sessions today, where the charges were adjourned until March 3 next year for hearing before a magistrate only.
She was stopped by police on October 9, the day of the federal election, and is alleged to have falsely informed them she had an ACT licence.
Outside the court, Senator Webber today said she did not want to comment in detail about the case.
"It's a Traffic Act offence and I'm not the first person, probably not even the first politician, that's appeared in the Magistrates Court with a Traffic Act matter," she told ABC radio.
Yes your quite right Senator Webber ..but giving false information is a more serious charge....
The maximum penalty for an offence of wilfully misleading police is a $1600 fine. A driving under suspension carries a fine of up to $1500 and/or 12 months jail and a loss of licence up to 3 years.
