He doesn’t need to be average +25 possies a game but even averaging +18 touches with a huge chunk of it being contested(as well as averaging 4-5 clearances) would go along way for that midfield. if Yeo stays fit, he’d make a decent third on baller next year.
Isn’t that basically just Graham’s role though? Makes sense if Dev is just depth/injury cover, otherwise does it make sense to play both?

I mean, Graham certainly added competitiveness & helped stop the floor from falling away completely, but what we really need to add is actual 25+ possession midfielders to get us over the line. Even one of those would be amazing, as we had none last year.

Sort of a known quantity at 24, but that’s not the full picture. It could be argued that he’d be a best 22 AFL quality extractor in a few weaker midfields than Brisbane’s…. and that could just be ours.

I’m more of the camp that those factors means he hasn’t had the best opportunity, and he could step up once handed it. He isn’t flashy but he has some nice attributes in and around the contest

I think that's speculative and I think Robertson has quality issues all the way down to a lack of creativity & dynamism inside.

Yes, he's had stunted opportunities, but i think he'd face barriers to game time from most senior coaches pushing for finals.

Not quite. Graham brings a lot defensively but his disposals are predominantly uncontested. I’m more thinking like a Hugh Greenwood that Adelaide had like 5 years ago. Basically inside beast

If Dev can be the inside beast as some say then that's 100% what we need.
The break down for 2025 was we were -245 in clearance differentials (Jeff White), next was Richmond at -105.
We definitely need a Dev.

Agree we definitely need some more grunt and class in the midfield.

I'm just not sure any of the SSP pick ups are good enough.
I wouldn't be surprised if Dev starts, but I have doubts he can hold his spot.

Either way, I'm happy enough for them to help out in the Magoo's.

Good thing Dev has an opportunity to prove himself to the doubters.

That article from the Worst though - did they even bother to proofread that before publishing? Atrocious.

PROOFREADING IS A THING OF BYGONE AGES. I used to do it for a partime job in school holidays for a newspaper in Kalgoorlie, right back in the days.

I wonder if Dev decided to just come home first time around if he would have copped the negativity he is getting now.
He grew up a die hard Eagle fan.
He was a Lark medalist and captain of the WA team when they were actually doing well.
He got drafted by a club that was just hitting a golden era due in no small part to their powerful midfield that just got stronger each year.

He is an Eagle now and fills a role that we desperately need filling.

I will back him in to be the player we need and he can be now he is playing for the club he loves ans with the extra opportunities he will have.

Twas Leppa that didn't rate him.
Yeah and I remember what was said but it came across as bitter. Redden said that his career stagnated under Leppa. His best footy was as a balanced mid but Leppa came in and wanted him to be an inside bull and got him to bulk up and his footy fell off. Came here and got tha role a few years later and the rest is history

Not sure if it counts as inside bull, but Redden was basically the comp's most prolific tackler in his first few years

Not really I think he’s always been a two way runner and had that defensive edge to his game. He wasn’t a super star but an all round mid than was invaluable to the team.

Going forward this next crop would need a Redden type too.

What even happened to Red Dog post footy? Heard and seen nothing. It was a bit of a surprise when he retired too, from the outside looking in it seemed he had more to give to the club but obviously he (or we) had other plans.
