Absolutely love this. He's not a Buckley-esque standards driver in that "football is life" — much more down-to-earth approach that is equally uncompromising and effective but far more relatable to those who have the talent but don't come from a background of comparative privilege.

Ask someone like Sam Powell-Pepper what he owes Boak.

(I'm sure Elijah already has had a message from him).

Huge get - welcome aboard, Boaky.

Two important things with this appointment:
1. Rejected overtures to join Geelong earlier in his career to lead his club as a one-club player - important role model for Walshy.
2. Could be important factor in a potential Butters race next year.

Don't those two things contradict each other ?? :D

Not at all - unless we blow the budget on Walshy. Walshy may/should stay and reject similar GFC overtures. Butters may yet come to us - possibly in part to re-join his mentors closer to home.
Moreso being a one club player.

Boak to Walsh: be a one club player

Boak to Butters: leave your club

Welcome Boaky. This says it best…

To be honest our Bigfooty fans are the only ones who've ever showed any Boaky slander. And I think that's more to do with the fact that the Hinkley era tainted some of us so badly that anybody who has ever been in a 10km radius of him seems to get hate of some kind.

*In all seriousness I maintain an incredible amount of respect for Boak and wish him all the best with you guys.

He seems one of those rare types that is really hard to dislike and gets respect from fans from all clubs. A good, honest footballer; I don't mean in terms of talent, but likeability and respectability.

I don't know anything about his character, leadership etc, but was captain for six seasons, so I assume he's the right kind of guy to have around.

Edit: Have read a couple of articles. If you can use that as a trustworthy source, then he sounds like the absolute professional. Does everything (physical, mental, other) he can to get the best out of himself. Helps his teammates, happy to give advice to players across the league. Had an amazing career renaissance after 30, which takes ultimate dedication to physical prep as well as work on mindset. Sounds perfect for leadership & culture. Particularly for Carlton's belated push for professionalism and consistent effort.
