There'd be people upset if venemouss snakes were killed. Move along.

Gawd, you follow me around more than Kenny does, want a schmacko? Here boy, sit, play dead.:D

We've got 2 less dogs. A pure Lab and a Lab cross, both youngsters, decided to play with the pigs on the farm next door. That's a big no-no in a farming area.
They were both summarily dealt with.

Geez, how do you feel about that? Just part of farm life?

That makes me sad, two more dogs are dead because of their owners being irresponsible.

They weren't really 'mine' although I spent a lot of time with them, the lab in particular.
It is just a part of farm life. No farmer wants anything to do with dogs that develop those traits. They were so placid normally too.

Nothing to do with responsibility.

It shouldn't be, why aren't the dogs contained on their own property when they aren't out working? Mind you I have never heard of labs being used for farm work. Sounds more to me, that people who live on farms, think it's OK to let their dogs wander.

They weren't working dogs - they were pets. Farms aren't like suburban backyards that are closed off.
They had never bothered the pigs before but last night they did. There are no second chances with that sort of behaviour.

You could always get a couple of others to replace them.
How did they get into the pig pen?

Exactly, they weren't working dogs, so should have been contained on their property, sorry Fred, I get so angry that dogs die because their owners are slack. You know it is possible to fence off an area on your own property, so your dogs are safe & not bothering animals on your neighbours farm. But alas, the attitude you have displayed is indicative of people who don't really care about their dogs, if they did, they would make sure they are safe & not put in danger by being allowed to wander.

You obviously don't understand how things work. Pets or working dogs like to join in whatever is going on. They'll quite often go to the dairy or join in bringing the cows in, irrigating, spraying etc. Joining in is what dogs want. They aren't locked up so it's their choice.
Your holier than thou attitude gets annoying at times. Dogs, like people, aren't perfect. Sometimes one will lead another astray and do something they wouldn't ordinarily do. Freedom is what dogs have on farms. Confine yours in suburbia if you will, but don't tell me you'd keep Kenny confined when there are 600 acres to run around in. You just wouldn't do it.
It's very easy for you to sit there and say it's all the owners fault. If a cow breaks down a fence and gets hit by a truck I suppose you'd say the owner should have built stronger fences.
Accept the fact that sometimes things happen. Sometimes, they're not nice things. Automatically blaming the owner is pointless and narrow-minded.

Sorry Fred, but at the moment the breed I love is in danger of becoming extinct, because of humans. You say my holier than thou attitude annoys you, but the cavalier attitude of people like you annoys me.

My first Cairn Terrier got killed on a farm, because I listened to everyone saying he was safe running free, they forgot about the milk truck which ran over him. I am sorry, I won't ever lose a pet again, because their safety is number one, sure poor Kenny is confined to a large backyard & being walked on a lead, but at least I know he is safe. It also ensures that other animals & people are safe as well.

Sounds like your fault for not training him to stay away from milk trucks.

Some people's cavalier attitude astounds me.

See, it's easy isn't it.

Naughty, naughty Fred, the idiots who told me to let my Hobo run free, forgot about the milk truck. Point still is, that if the labradors had have been looked after, both the pigs & the dogs would be alive now. Argue all you like, but people are responsible for the damage their pets do, but unfortunately, it's the animals that pay the price of irresponsible owners & that makes me angry as hell, especially considering because of humans, my favourite breed of dog is in danger of being made extinct.

You're the owner, you're responsible. No good blaming those who said let him run free - that's a cop-out and abrogation of responsibility.

Or are you really saying it's the owners responsibility when blame can't be laid elsewhere? Maybe you just meant other owners?

2 dogs running together are always more likely to get into trouble than one dog on it's lonesome ..It's a shame because labs are nice dogs ...unlike those vicious pitbull mongrels
