West Coast Looking forward to 2011

After winning back-to-back Premierships, West Coast coach The Maestro has stated that preparations for season 2011 have already begun. While the players will take the next weeks to celebrate winning the flag, the coaches and staff are hard at work.

Questions have risen whether we will see an exodus of Premiership players from the side, due to the salary cap. But coach Maestro insists the list will be mainly kept together, unless players can be brought in to improve the quality of the list. The Maestro has also indicated that the Eagles are in line for signing even more high-profile players, with Brad Ottens, who is believed to be moving onto the veterans list, freeing up a hefty $600,000 salary to be spent on other players.

The main aim is to keep the core group together and continue to develop our young prospects such as Tom Rockliff, Mitch Robinson and Paul Stewart.

Everyone please post your interests here or shoot me a PM.

We love trading, no matter what player it is. If we think a deal will benefit the side in some way we will do it. Previous years have shown we are always active in trade season so lets see if we can work something out. Cheers :thumbsu:

If anyone is looking for a key defender, Craig Bolton is on the table for a 3rd round draft pick. His contract is as cheap as chips @ $126,000.

Don't get caught out this season for key defensive cover.

PM me, and we'll put the deal through when trading opens :thumbsu:

West Coast - "A Big Year Ahead"

They are the cries of the West Coast army. With three massive signings on the opening day of trading in Travis Cloke, Sam Gilbert and Liam Anthony. Ex-Collingwood forward Travis Cloke comes to the West, which will see him earn the title as the club's highest paid player at $700,000 a year. In a trade that will no doubt send shivers down the spine of opposition clubs.

"Hopefully Travis can work well with Fev in what will be a tremendous forwardline. We are the biggest club in the competition and signings like Travis only re-emphasises that fact." said West Coast coach Maestro.

Cloke who was out of contract at Collingwood and wanted a change of scenerey in hope of Premiership success.

"Leaving Collingwood was not easy for me, I would have liked to of stayed but the phonecall came from my manager telling me West Coast were interested in getting me over to the West and I couldn't turn them down. As a footballer, you want to win Premierships and West Coast have won the last two. I think my decision was a good one. "

Sam Gilbert was the other big name to join Cloke over in the West. The Eagles believe they have bolstered their key forward and back stocks with the two signings.

"Sam's a terrific player. He's great defensively and offensively. Those players are always nice to have on your team."

Gilbert stated his reasons to join the Eagles was not disimilar to Cloke's.

"West Coast are building a fine tradition and I just want to be apart of it. You walk into this club and you can sense it's all about winning. There was a rumour running around while I was at Melbourne that West Coast don't develop young players. I don't think that's true, I just don't think they believe in bottoming out. It's like a revolving door of player success here, it's a really nice feeling."

Liam Anthony is the third big name player to join the club. He returns home after spending two years in Melbourne. The ball-magnet suffered a season-ending shoulder injury and will be looking to getting back onto the track for 2011. His recovery is going as planned.

The three players will have some time to settle in, with pre-season training not scheduled for another 2 weeks. The coaching staff predict another big season ahead for the Eagles.

Star Calls West Coast Home

West Coast have signed former Victorian Eagles superstar Leigh Montagna through the transfer market.

Montagna's contract at Victoria ended at the conclusion of the 2010 AFL season. West Coast were quick to act by penciling him in as a priority in the transfer market and in the end, got their man.

It is believed the midfielder has signed on a contract worth $500,000 a year over 5 years. Montagna will no doubt strengthen an already ominous looking Eagles lineup.

Coach Maestro, could not contain his joy at this announcement.

"Montagna is a star, easily in the top 5% in the competition and we're happy to have him on board with us."

This off-season has seen West Coast strengthen their squad with the signings of Travis Cloke, Liam Anthony, Sam Gilbert and now Leigh Montagna.

Eagles On the Move?

Premiership players Matthew Stokes, Chris Newman, Matthew Rosa, Jason Winderlich and Jordan Lewis have reportedly expressed their interest to leave the club.

West Coast have said they are all required players, although the club have also mentioned that no player is bigger than the club.

"It's true that some of the boys are unhappy, but if you can't hack it here, go somewhere else. We don't stand down to nobody." Said coach Maestro.

"I've spoken to the boys who wish to leave. Some have genuine reasoning to leave and I totally respect that, but some I get the feeling aren't too keen to work hard for a starting position considering our new signings this offseason. They're all great players but if you're not happy with our direction, the door is there and you are free to leave."

West Coast will be in discussions with other clubs in the coming weeks in regards to the aforementioned players. Whether a deal can be done is yet to be seen, but the Eagles are understood to have already fielded offers from opposition teams since the start of the off-season.

West Coast Set to Soar

McVeigh_Roos_a.jpg

The West Coast Eagles gain the services of dual Brownlow Medalist Adam Goodes, former Adelaide star Jarrad McVeigh and out of contract Victorian Eagle Cameron Bruce. Along with these established stars of the competition saw young guns Brett Meredith and Josh Thomas committ their long term futures to the club, ensuring the present and the future of West Coast is in good hands.

With these signings the makeup of the team is almost complete. The National Draft awaits where the Eagles look to further replenish their list with youth to blend with the experienced players. Although the Eagles are not ruling out further trading stating that they still have a fair amount of cap space for teams struggling to stay under the cap.

"We'll certainly look at trades that can bring big name players to the club. Our cap is still not full and we'll explore these possible avenues further in the very near future. We are open to help any sides who are struggling with cap space." said coach Maestro.

The Eagles again look strong to challenge for their third consecutive Premiership.

"If we didn't at least make the top 4 we would be very very disappointed. This list is filled with talent not on just every line, but every single position on the ground and our depth is also a strength. I can't spot a weakness in this team. I'm really happy with the way we have handled this offseason."

The depth of the Eagles list is impressive, considering the amount of established stars in their side. Coach Maestro puts that down to the quality list management of his staff.

"They've been fantastic in that regard. We lose good players, but we sign even better ones. That's the sign of a strong club. We have guys like Brad Ottens, Domenic Cassisi, Mitch Robinson, David Wocjinski, Ben Warren, Brett Meredith and Paul Stewart fighting for a starting spot in our side. I would say more than half of those guys would start anywhere else in the competition. It's a great problem to have. No doubt they will be used at some stage throughout the year as we know that injuries and suspension will occur and depth is vital."

With the trading period over, the Eagles have revealed their likely starting 22 for the upcoming season.

B: Jordan Russell - Harry O' Brien - Chris Newman
HB: Bryce Gibbs - Sam Gilbert - Domenic Cassisi
C: Liam Anthony - Adam Goodes - Leigh Montagna
HF: Kade Simpson - Travis Cloke - Cameron Bruce
F: Brent Harvey - Brendan Fevola - Tom Rockliff

RUCK: Matthew Leuenberger - Daniel Cross - Jarrad McVeigh

Reserve:

B: David Wojcinksi - Thomas Murphy - Brendan Whitecross
HB: Paul Stewart - Leigh Brown - Sam Sheldon
C: Jason Winderlich - Patrick McGinnity - Brett Meredith
HF: Mitch Robinson - Brad Ottens - Josh Thomas
F: Joel Houghton - Charlie Dixon - Ben Warren

RUCK: Cameron Wood - Dion Prestia - Ben Speight

The Rest:

Sam Shaw
Joe Anderson *
John Meeson *

We think the biggest strength in this side and from day one since I took over is the depth. Year after year, sides go down with injury and are unable to replace their players, which hurt the side's fortunes throughout the year. We have proven to have all bases covered in the past and believe it is no different this season.

Bring on 2011! :thumbsu:
