After an action packed fortnight of trading, which saw us complete 4 trades in the frenetic final 24 hours, West Coast are reportedly delighted with the results of the first trade period.
Trades completed by the Eagles were;
1. Nathan G Brown for Andrew Embley & Elijah Ware
As hard as it was to let Embley go, we decided the potential upside of Brown, the best scoring player in the game before injury, was too good to pass up. If Brown fires, he could be the difference between a premiership and mediocre result for the club.
2. Brent Reilly for Phillip Matera & Cameron Faulkner
Simply saw the upside in Reilly, Matera was in need of a fresh start and Faulkner didn't come on as hoped.
3. Daniel Harris for Brent Reilly
After 2 years of trying we have finnally brought Harris to the club. We have strong belief he will step up into a leading midfield role in 06.
4. Pick 46 for Michael Johnson
A tough call, but with plenty of key position talent at the club decided to release Johnson which would help our salary situation.
5. Scott Thompson & Pick 23 for Mitch Morton, Adam Selwood & Tim Walsh
Thompson was our no.1 target this trade period, and after hours of discussions with the Kangaroos we finally got our man. We feel Thompson will assist in our tilt on the premiership next season. Unfortunantly had to sacrifice the highly rated Morton and Selwood to get him. Walsh didn't come on as hoped.
6. Brad Ottens, Brent Prismall & Pick 36 for Mark Johnson & Nick Ries
The first of our final day trades, we were finally able to attain a suitable trade for Johnson, which saw us fill our long term ruck void with the arrival of Ottens. Also delighted to welcome the highly rated Prismall. Ries gets a new start.
7. Pick 43 for Paul Johnson
Salary cap constraints meant Johnson would have to go, and we are happy he gets a fresh start at Collingwood.
8. Jared Rivers for Picks 18, 82 & 98
Absolutely delighted to bring in Rivers for our late first round pick and 2 picks which wouldn't be used anyway. Wasn't enjoying life at Melbourne and a fresh start in Perth should help reiginite the career of the former rising star winner.
9. Pick 15 for Troy Makepeace
Shattered to lose Makepeace, who was a fine servant for the club playing every game last season. Had to make a trade on the last day which would bring us under the salary cap, and unfortunanly Makepeace had to go. Happy to get a first rounder in exchange which will be used on a quality youngster, but certainly feel Port should be satisfied with this trade.
