What Are We Missing?

Listening to the press conference today and it seems the club believes we have enough cover in the KPP ranks as well as the rucks to some degree, could do with 1-2 more developing ruckmen, but what else seems to be missing at Richmond. What types of players should we be focusing on not necessarily names but the types of players. The follow up is do we have any youngsters on the list developing that can fill these roles?

Once we figure out what it is we are missing then perhaps we can start looking through the Drafts & Trading board or ask Weaver to provide some names of players that might just be able to fill these voids in our list.

What we're missing is quality in the guts. We don't have enough players that can play well yet on the ball. We can't match the physicallity, skill and depth of other midfields in the league. It leaves our forward line starved and our defence under pressure. When we get that maturity in the middle, then we might be able to compete.

Where will it come from? Well I think there are positive signs in the players we have, but we need to keep adding to it each draft as well. On the down side most of the players we have that will address this problem are still a while away yet, need time to learn the game, bulk up and get fit enough to run out games on the ball.

All the talk is Kreuzer for number 1, and that would indeed boost our ruck and KPP stocks, but given the apparent depth of rucks this draft, I think it means we could well look for something else.

Crotchin is apparently the number 1 Vic small, but doesn't sound like a gun on the ball player, not sure we can go another number 1 pick on a player that could end up being more of a utility type. These guys are more luxury players that you can have once you have your engine sorted.

Ideally someone will stand up through the year and at the championships and show themselves as a gun on-baller that we can't pass up. We can then use our next picks on a ruck and maybe another midfielder, or another KPP.

I'd be disappointed if we used any of our first few picks on genuine flanker types, we have enough of those and we have other pressing needs that must be addressed.

We missing experienced bodied midfielders. 25-30 year battle hardend players, we have to wait and be patient. We need to draft midfielders and more midfielders. Ruckman are too risky. get injured all the time. Durable midfielders, and more midfielders.

Polo, Connors, Casserley

What we are missing is a leader. If we had a Voss, Hird, Buckley or a Riccuito even a Hamill for the kids to look up to we would be in a much better state.

what about matty richardson as big a profile player as any of the blokes it wont help us mate we need in and under gutsy players

These guys are massive profile because they are leaders. I luv Richo but he isnt a leader. He is more like a Akermanis or West who are both great players but they are not leaders. We have so many Kids in our side and very little direction from our on field leaders.

Midfielders who step up when we have a chance of winning (Carlton, Sydney,Collingwood) and expirience which will take time with our plan of action.

Richo is the worst thing that ever happened to richmond, now that he is back in the side and playing they are surely doomed.......

The bloke can't kick more than 5 against a top 8 side.

Tear up the f*ckin sooks contract and spread the cash among 3 decent midfielders ... THEN u will see improvement

Its obvious...we need 2 players that have the media and footy world buzzing, instead of us. Then we might have a couple of match winners and not just a couple of good ordeinary players. WHo in our side is that player that can win or turn a match with a one or two pieces of mercurial brilliance? WHo in our side can you suggest at a given time..you know that something is going to happen when they go near the ball? then you might understand how far away we are from being a middle of the road side let alone a contender.
Cousins, Kerr, Embley, Cox, Wiirupunda, Hunter, Judd, each one of those dudes and i have left out a dude that cant even make the side now Fletcher. can turn and win a game on their own...do you copy? or do you live in a cocoon?

How do we get 3 decent midfielders for Richo?

What he said. :thumbsu:

A tall, tough defender - Ray Hall
A guy who can kick goals - Nathan Brown
A guy who is hard at the ball - Mark Couglhan
A ruckman - Troy Simmonds

So... we have the guys, just not at the moment.....
